The Himalayan Valley's Deteriorating Air Quality, Improving Again under LG Manoj Sinha's Mission for Breathable Air.
By: ZAMAN NOOR
Jammu & Kashmir's pristine valleys ringed by snow-capped peaks have long lured travelers for ages with enchanting natural beauty. However the paradise on earth is now facing an invisible threat to its pride on purity, rapidly deteriorating air quality that poses existential dangers to the region's ecology, public health outcomes & sustainability efforts.
Here, an explosion of private vehicles straining combusted with noxious fumes. Even remote villages remained not immune as some 94% households depended on indoor air pollution sources like fuelwood. Kashmir's overdependence on chemicals for agriculture also contaminated water bodies.
In the capital Srinagar, commercial trucks and increasing number of LMV cars, Local emissions data reveals transportation alone accounted for 70% of PM10 and PM2.5 particulates - directly linked to respiratory illness & mortality risks.
Tourism attraction like Pahalgam depict similar threats as PM 2.5 levels spiked 900% from 2010-2020. Surrounding traffic permeates pollution into the breath-taking but fragile valley, now exposing locals & travellers alike. Kashmir's overall pesticide usage grew 36% as well, indicating unchecked agri-chemical contaminants entering food chains, water bodies & ecosystems.
The National Clean Air Programme's (NCAP) latest pollution analytics for J&K present a concerning data - 11 out of 22 monitoring stations register critical levels across cities and rural areas. What were once disease outliers now stare at becoming the norm without resolute policy response.
However, Honorable LG J&K Sh. Manoj Sinha ji hold promise, with early analyses pointing to stabilising pollution across J&K. NCAP recordings show average annual PM2.5 levels dropped from 111μg/m3 in 2019 to a less hazardous 75μg/m3 amidst concerted governance efforts spanning 2022-24.
Srinagar's smog density also declined nearly 30% as green mobility & emissions policies accelerate.
Encouraging steps to curb vehicular emissions via public transit upgrades, promote clean rural cooking, protect fragile ecosystems & coordinate cross-departmental environmental action have arrested pollution upticks across Jammu & Kashmir.
Notable interventions praiseworthy of the LG Administration's vision include: fast-tracking Asia's longest bi-directional Nashri-Chenani tunnel to curb highway disruptions, reviving Dal Lake through scientific conservation efforts, restoring the polluted Tawi River's aqua life through community participation, launching emissions compliance drives & green mobility options under the Smart City mission.
Additional gains made across expanding organic agriculture, checking unregulated tourism footprint in sensitive zones and increasing penetration of clean rural energy have furthered sustainability targets.
No doubt, challenges remain in securing continued investment, ensuring last-mile reach & commitment for J&K's hard-fought environmental gains. However, breathable air quality and ecological consciousness are now higher public priorities with growing participation.
Overall, the LG Administration's purposeful coordination and data-backed governance offer hope against decades of adhoc neglect that commodified JK's natural assets.
Jammu now has India's largest fleet of 135 electric buses, part of the LG's green mobility push. Metro Rail construction also began in 2022, set to eliminate 34,500+ tonnes of emissions annually. Further emissions policies remain necessary, but progress is tangible.
To curb vehicular pollution, Srinagar residents are also increasingly adopting bicycle services and electric buses introduced in 2023-2024 Only by the Current Administration under LG Manoj Sinha.
Over 39,000 people have registered for bicycle sharing services since their launch in May 2023, as part of the Smart City project seeking to reduce emissions and traffic. Additionally, 49 out of 75 new electric buses now operate on zero-emission routes connecting Srinagar with its out skirts. More charging infrastructure is underway, with potential future expansion.
Equipped with tech features and optimised for sustainability through LG Sinha’s initiatives, these new transit options can revolutionize mobility. As per estimates, bicycles replacing short-distance motorised trips yearly can yield Rs 1.8 trillion in energy savings and emission reductions.
DAL LAKE Known as the "Jewel in the Crown" of Kashmir, Dal Lake faces existential threats from sewage and waste dumping, encroachments, and pollution. Under LG Manoj Sinha's directives, the Lakes & Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) launched a Rs.497 crore conservation project in 2022-23 - the first comprehensive restoration effort in over a decade.
Advanced deweeding machinery, modular treatment wetlands and scientific sensors now continually monitor and treat inlet channels along with lake waters. Houseboat waste generation also declined 60% from 2020 levels after strict compliance checks and installations of bio-digesters, even as enlarged sewage networks reduced external pollution inflows. The stabilization of weed mass area from 32sq km in 2019 to 20 sq km by 2024 indicates early signs of revival aided by public-private participation.
The treacherous Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, prone to landslides and weather disruptions, often hindered vital connectivity and economic lifelines between regions. Under the LG Administration, construction began on Asia's longest bi-directional Km14 Chenani-Nashri tunnel, incluiding other small and micro small tunnels. Equipped with globally benchmarked ventilation systems, the tunnel network will eliminate pollution curses along the route - earlier exacerbated by idling trucks amid frequent closures. Improved all-weather connectivity can spur trade and enhance environmental oversight across J&K's remote areas earlier cut-off frequently.
Originating from the Kali Kundi glaciers, the iconic Tawi River holds deep cultural significance in Jammu as sacred site for rituals and recreation. However, mushrooming illegal encroachments, dumping waste and unchecked erosion turned sections into toxic cesspools by 2021.
LG Sinha directed multi-departmental interventions from 2022 encompassing embankment restoration, evicting 500+ slum dwellings, mechanism river surface cleaning drives and strict anti-dumping vigilance. Consequently, dissolved oxygen levels display 60% improvement between early 2022 and 2024 - restoring aqua life and pride.
Under the SMART CITY MISSION Jammu Smart City initiative, solar rooftops emerged on 92 government buildings by 2024 while 5000 LED lights cut annual emissions by 20%. Air and noise sensors now generate location-specific analytics to shape policy.
Srinagar's Smart City upgrades also encompass installing technology-assisted water ATMs and eToilets for efficient, less polluting sanitation access. Projects like eBus Network, bicycle sharing network, improved drainage infrastructure and smart traffic systems - holding promising sustainability dividends.
To clear indoor air, the Union government's Ujjwala scheme increased rural LPG connections 50% by 2024 as cleaner cooking alternatives gain acceptance. Vertical biogas plants leveraging farm residue also mushroomed across villages, leading to over 20% lower fuelwood-linked deforestation compared to 2022.
Kashmir’s agri-ecosystems also depict recovery with pesticide usage dropping 32% over 2022-24 as food safety awareness couples with renewed efforts to incentivise organic cultivation. Once dangerously overloaded waterbodies now benefit from enhanced drainage infrastructure and water rejuvenation projects.
Breathable air quality remains among the foremost priorities of my administration and we aim to rectify decades of adhoc interventions compounding the problem,( remarked LG Sinha at a public rally recently.) Beyond statistics, J&K's future health, tourism potential and ability to unlock full economic output depends on getting pollution redressal right, he added.
J&K LG administration has doubled down on cross-department coordination and data-based environmental decision making with promising outcomes. Last-mile reach although mass awareness campaigns slowly make inroads into remote habitations.
However, having arrested J&K's pollution uptick, the real test lies in sustaining hard fought gains across vectors. Continued investment backing for public transit infrastructure, strict compliance regimes for emissions and waste disposal norms, scaling clean rural energy and boosting ecological farming - these urgent actions warrant unflinching administrative focus.
For now, the region's environmental health indicators defy earlier gloom and doom prognosis. But titanic challenges loom to rectify decades of officially neglected degradation before 2015. How LG Sinha's green action agenda weathers political upheavals inherent in J&K will chart the Himalayan valley's prospects to regain its glory as a global exemplar of sustainable living.

The Significance of Shab-e-Barat in Islam
By ZAMAN NOOR
Shab-e-Barat also known as the night of forgiveness or the night of emancipation, is one of the most sacred nights in the Islamic calendar. Occurring on the 14th night of Sha’ban, the eighth month of the Hijri calendar, Shab-e-Barat carries tremendous spiritual meaning for Muslims around the world. This holy night is celebrated with reverence and devotion, especially in South Asian regions.
There are multiple hadiths of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) that highlight the virtues of mid-Sha’ban and Shab-e-Barat:
“Allah looks at His creation during the middle night of Sha’ban and forgives all His creation except two kinds of people: those who associate partners with Allah and those who harbor enmity for their brothers.” (Ibn Maja)
“Allah reveals to the angels on the fifteenth night of Sha’ban if He has forgiven anyone from the people of the Fire during Sha’ban and the angels rejoice at this.” (Ibn Hibban)
“O Ali,(A.S) whoever prays one hundred rakats on the night of mid-Sha’ban and recites in each rakat al-Fatihah and "Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad" ten times, Allah will meet seventy worldly needs and thirty of the Hereafter for this person.” (Mafatih al-Ghayb)
These narrations point to Sha’ban and Shab-e-Barat being an occasion for seeking forgiveness, redemption and the fulfillment of prayers. Performing virtuous deeds on this night reaps immense spiritual rewards.
While Shab-e-Barat was observed during Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) time, some scholars trace the origins of this holy night even earlier to Prophet Dawood (PBUH). According to Imam al-Shaf'i (A.S) Allah revealed the five canonical daily prayers to Prophet Dawood (PBUH) on the night of mid-Sha’ban. Others narrate that the worshipping in this night was passed down from Prophet Abraham (PBUH).
Over the centuries, Shab-e-Barat became a focal point of devotion for Muslims desiring mercy and forgiveness from Allah. It is known as Laylat al-Rahmah or Night of Mercy across Islamic literature and folklore. The legendary Sufi saint, Hazrat Abdul Qadir Jilani (R.A) called it Shab-e-Uthman or the Night of Emancipation, highlighting its liberating nature.
In the Indian subcontinent, Shab-e-Barat customs took on localized cultural practices within the devotional framework. Special foods like halwa, zarda and Bassel seeds milk drinks are prepared. Many spend the night offering voluntary prayers at mosques or home. Visiting graveyards to make donations and pray for departed souls is also common. Some light candles at gravesites.
The night of Shab-e-Barat carries exceptional significance in Kashmir valley, with deeply-rooted rituals passed down generations. Kashmiri Muslims eagerly await the arrival of Shab-e-Barat, which they believe brings divine grace and fortune. For seven days beforehand, preparations begin for welcoming this sacred occasion.
Houses are thoroughly cleaned in anticipation. Local bakeries get busier as orders for special Shab-e-Barat breads and cakes stream in. These include kaloudi bread studded with sesame and poppy seeds as well as baqerkhani flavored with cardamom and saffron. Kulcha and kehwa are favorites it is usually served volunteerly by locals outside of the mosques and shrines to the general public.
On Shab-e-Barat eve, people take a ritual bath and decorate homes with flowers and light candles and incense sticks.
After Maghrib namaz, families gather for prayers seeking divine mercy and forgiveness of sins. Many spend a large part of the night reciting the Quran and chanting duas.
Later, a platter of the prepared sweets like halwa, Feerni and Babri treesh sharing with next door neighbors is also common pin valley. Many donate food to the poor as an expression of gratitude.
When the blessed night reaches to the last hours or we can say next morning, people gather early at graveyards to pay respects to deceased relatives and loved ones. Candles and lamps light up the graves in a poignant scene of devotion. Donations are made to charity in the departed souls’ name, hoping they attain sawab (reward).
Visiting to ancient and historic mosques, shrines of Sufi saints and Graveyards of Spiritual scholars to seek blessings is the another hallmark, The gatherings at prominent holy spiritual places like Dargah Hazrat Bal Mosque and Major shrines like Dastgeer Sahib in Srinagar are cherished a Hanafi spiritual tradition during Shab-e-Barat. These spiritual endeavors unite thousands of Kashmiri Muslims to offer night prayers (Nimaz-e-Isha) together, symbolizing their devout reverence and spiritual connection.
After seeking blessings on the sacred night of Shab-e-Barat, most of the people observe non-obligatory fast the following day as a gesture of devotion and gratitude.
Even the sick make efforts to pray and partake in the blessings of Shab-e-Barat.
For Kashmiri Muslims the night of Shab-e-Barat is the highlight of the Islamic calendar. The spiritual meanings and local rituals cherished for centuries make it a profoundly meaningful and spirituality motivated (Ibadat) adoration.

Jammu & Kashmir: Modi Ushers In A Transformative New Era
In a historic visit laden with promises and path-breaking initiatives, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Srinagar on 7th March 2024 to the rapturous welcome of hundred thousands. This marked his first trip to Kashmir since the momentous decision to abrogate Article 370 in August 2019, expediting the region's complete integration with the Indian union.
As Modi ji took center-stage at the iconic bakshi Stadium, one could sense the charged atmosphere brimming with aspiration and hope for change. The Prime Minister's powerful address encapsulated his vision of building a "Naya Kashmir" (New Kashmir) - promising equitable development, employment opportunities and the fruits of progress cutting across all communities.
"My sisters and brothers of Jammu and Kashmir, you have suffered immensely due to Pakistan's proxy war of cross-border terrorism. But your courage, resilience and unwavering faith in Indian unity has ultimately triumphed," PM Modi affirmed. "The dark clouds over this paradise have finally parted. The dawn of peace has arrived, and now the fresh rays of vikas (development) will brighten your lives and those of future generations."
To catalyse the economic resurgence of J&K, the Prime Minister unveiled the ambitious ₹5000 crore "Holistic Agriculture Development Programme" aimed at transforming the agri-economy and empowering farmers. This futuristic scheme will nurture over 2.5 lakh cultivators through skill upgradation in modern agricultural best practices and ensure robust market linkages.
Powered by a dedicated "Daksh Kisan" online portal and mobile app, this program will democratize access to the latest farming knowledge, soil nutrient management, supply chain logistics and digital finance for Jammu and Kashmir's farming community. It will seamlessly connect producers with processing facilities and commercial markets across India.
Additionally, about 2000 "Kisan Khidmat Ghars" (Farmer Facilitation Homes) replete with state-of-the-art extension services and rural agri-entrepreneur incubators are slated to be established across all panchayats over the next 3 years. This push aims to maximize value realisation for agricultural produce from cultivation to retail.
"The Holistic Agriculture Development Programme marks a new beginning for rural prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir. It will unleash a new agri-based economic revolution by nurturing the twin pillars of knowledge and enterprise," asserted Modi ji amidst thunderous applause. Sustainable agriculture is the bedrock for employment, financial inclusion and achieving PM Gati Shakti's vision of integrated logistics across the region."
J&K's diverse agri-products like saffron, apples, basmati rice, walnuts and exotic vegetables renowned worldwide will now get a renewed thrust in production, cold chains, e-marketing and exports under dedicated product clusters.
The tourism sector, a key economic engine of Jammu and Kashmir, received the Prime Minister's keen attention. Modi ji launched multiple projects worth over ₹1,400 crores envisioned under the flagship Swadesh Darshan and PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation And Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive) schemes.
These ambitious initiatives will unlock new opportunities by developing critical infrastructure, amenities and holistic product suites spanning the entire tourism ecosystem – accommodation, accessibility, attractions and activities. From spiritual havelis and eco-resorts to premium adventure circuits and craft safari experiences, the aim is to invigorate Jammu and Kashmir as a world-leading destination showcasing India's incredible diversity and hospitality.
A key highlight was the inauguration of the Integrated Development of Hazratbal Shrine project, undertaken at a cost of over ₹52 crores. This rejuvenation drive encompasses boundary wall construction, shrine illumination, improved ghats and paths, signages, parking facilities and civic amenities around the iconic Dargah complex on the banks of Dal Lake.
Modi ji also launched two pioneering tourism campaigns - "Dekho Apna Desh People's Choice Tourist Destination Poll" and "Chalo India Global Diaspora Campaign". The former empowers citizens to vote for and promote their favorite tourism destinations across India biannually. The latter aims to attract Indian diaspora and foreign visitors by showcasing the vibrant diversity of festivals, cuisine, destinations and folk experiences through intensive marketing drives.
Underscoring his commitment to employment generation, the Prime Minister distributed appointment orders to over 1000 newly recruited youth joining the Jammu and Kashmir government. "When talented and educated young minds power the engine of governance, efficiency rises and development accelerates. These fresh energies will reinforce my vision of a Minimum Government, Maximum Governance," stated Modi ji.
Applauding their skills and drive, he added, "Our Yuva Shakti is the catalyst driving the AmritKaal of our Viksit Bharat's progress. I call upon Jammu and Kashmir's youth to apply for and enthusiastically take up career opportunities in civil services, armed forces, police, banking, teaching and other fields. Your determination will make J&K Aatmanirbhar (self-reliant)."
In a pioneering move, Modi ji outlined a substantive roadmap for reinvigorating J&K's spiritual and religious tourism potential on a massive scale. He inaugurated as many as 43 projects worth over ₹850 crores for pilgrimage amenities development and heritage conservation across iconic Indian sites.
These include Annavaram Temple (Andhra Pradesh), Navagraha Temples (Tamil Nadu), Sri Chamundeshwari Devi Temple (Karnataka), Karni Mata Mandir (Rajasthan), Maa Chintpurni Temple (Himachal Pradesh) and the iconic Basilica of Bom Jesus in Goa among others. State-of-the-art infrastructure like audio guides, enlightening experiences, sanitation facilities, universal accessibility and tourist amenities will be developed under the Iconic Tourist Site Development Mission.
In line with his vision of promoting India's civilisational ethos, the Prime Minister asserted, "India is a land of eternal spirituality, philosophy, pilgrimage and pluralism. By nurturing these assets through modern infrastructure and authentic experiences, we enhance our national pride while generating livelihood opportunities in rural areas. This spiritual tapestry has woven Kashmir into the fabric of Akhand Bharat."
Reiterating his commitment to foster inclusive development, Modi ji announced comprehensive measures for the welfare and empowerment of Jammu and Kashmir's underprivileged communities. These include financial assistance, housing resettlement, educational scholarships, livelihood support and grassroots entrepreneurship for Kashmiri Pandits, Pakistani refugees, Gujjar-Bakarwals, Paharis and other disadvantaged groups.
"The tragic exodus of Kashmiri Pandits was a haunting injustice inflicted by the anti-national forces of terrorism," stated the Prime Minister solemnly. "India can never progress without healing these deep wounds. Their safe return, dignified rehabilitation and empowerment is imperative not just for Kashmir's integrity but India's soul too."
For the valley's development landscape, PM Modi reserved his biggest announcement till the end - the establishment of coveted institutions of excellence. World-class facilities like 5 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), 10 specialized medical universities focused on Ayurveda/Siddha research, an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and 2 super-specialty hospitals (cancer and nephrology) are on the anvil.
Furthermore, to energize the knowledge economy, 25 new degree colleges and polytechnics will open across all districts. Reinforcing his emphasis on youth empowerment, the Prime Minister allocated ₹2500 crores over 5 years for scholarships benefiting over 1 lakh deserving J&K students pursuing higher studies.
"India's brightest minds can uplift human progress across spheres – be it creating next-generation technologies, treatment and cures or walking in the footsteps of ancient wisdom. These temples of learning will equip Kashmir's talented youth to shape a glorious destiny for humanity," stated Modi ji.
His clarion call added, "With quality education and skill development, we will turn the tragic cycle of violence into a virtuous spiral of opportunity and innovation. Let kashmir's genius shine forth to illuminate the world."
In his concluding remarks, Modi ji powerfully invoked Jammu and Kashmir's Sufi traditions of harmony, pluralism and the human pursuit of spiritual transcendence. "Kashmir has been a radiant beacon of Sufism worldwide. Its embrace of diversity and quest for universal brotherhood is mirrored in beautiful traditions like the Amarnath Yatra."
"This sacred ethos of love, compassion and tolerance has endured for centuries here. But dark ideologies of hatred fueled by Pakistan's meddling fomented tragic bloodshed. That era of loneliness and grief has now ended. I appeal to all sections to unite as one 'Insaaniyat ka Parivar' (family of humanity)."
The Prime Minister vowed that justice for victims of terrorism will be ensured through due process of law. However, going forward an environment of accountability and reconciliation must prevail rather than perpetuating a cycle of animosity. Modi ji declared that the delimitation process and restoring grassroots democracy through fair assembly polls is a top priority.
"My vision for Jammu & Kashmir is of peace, progress and prosperous coexistence. Where people of all faiths can fearlessly celebrate each other's festivals, study together, work together and live together as honoured citizens of India," Modi ji affirmed.
"It is now time to permanently turn the page from the past. To move beyond the 'Dil ki Doori aur Dilli ki Doori' and embrace Kashmir into the mainstream of India's Amrit Kaal (golden era). United by our diversity, we will collectively script Jammu & Kashmir's destiny as a glorious 'Ek Bharat Shreshta Bharat'."
As the Prime Minister concluded his powerful speech amid deafening cheers and thunderous applause, it was evident his clarion call for unity, progress and inclusion had struck a deep chord across all segments of Kashmiri society. Though cynics exist who seek to sow discord, an overwhelming wave of hope and enthusiasm currently pervades the enchanting valley.
PM Modi has displayed the unwavering political will and compassion to usher in a transformative new dawn for Jammu & Kashmir. His decisive actions and people-centric approach have ignited dreams of prosperity, justice and self-respect amongst its citizens. Translating this vision into reality on the ground will undoubtedly face its share of challenges.
However, the Prime Minister's impactful initiatives announced during this historic visit lay a comprehensive roadmap integrating socio-economic development with trust-building. The onus now lies upon all stakeholders – from the UT administration to civil society, security forces to citizens – to collectively steer Jammu & Kashmir into an era of equitable peace and boundless possibilities.
If earnest efforts fructify as per this inclusive agenda, the restive paradise could well emerge as a model of unity amidst diversity showcasing Modi's 'SabkaSaath, SabkaVikas, SabkaVishwas' philosophy. This first decisive step has been taken. With sustained commitment and healing steps, the cherished dream of 'NayaKashmir' may ultimately be realised.

THE MIRROR OF KASHMIR
A new dawn for Jammu & Kashmir's democratic electoral perspective.
Banned Organisations are ready to engage in democratic discourse.
In a region that has witnessed decades of turmoil and conflict, a glimmer of hope has emerged as some banned organisations in Jammu and Kashmir are contemplating a remarkable shift, a decision to participate in the upcoming electoral process. This extraordinary development carries immense significance not only for the region but for the entire nation, as it represents a pivotal stride towards embracing the tenets of democracy and paving the way for lasting peace.
For years deep-rooted organisations leading some groups to embrace violence & reject the electoral process altogether. However time has a way of healing wounds & providing perspective & it seems that the allure of democracy & the promise of peaceful change through the ballot box have begun to resonate once again.
At the heart of this potential shift lies a fundamental recognition of the power & legitimacy of the democratic process. Democracy in its purest form is the ultimate expression of the people's will, a system that empowers citizens to shape their destiny through the ballot box. By embracing the electoral path, these once-banned organisations are signalling a willingness to engage in the democratic discourse, to articulate their grievances through legitimate channels & to seek redress through peaceful, constitutional means.
This decision if actualised, would mark a profound departure from the past, a rejection of violence & an embrace of the principles that undergird a vibrant democracy. It would symbolise a recognition that lasting change can only be achieved through dialogue, consensus-building & the collective power of the people's voice.
The true strength of a democracy lies in its ability to accommodate diverse viewpoints & ensure that every voice is heard. By opening the doors to previously marginalized groups, the electoral process in Jammu and Kashmir stands to gain legitimacy & credibility, fostering a sense of ownership & buy-in among the broader population.
Inclusive participation is not merely a matter of ticking boxes or paying lip service to democratic ideals, it is a fundamental necessity for building a society that truly reflects the aspirations & concerns of its people.
Moreover, the participation of these organisations in the electoral process would serve as a powerful counterweight to the narratives of extremism & separatism that have plagued the region for far too long. It would demonstrate that the path to progress lies not in violence or isolation but in embracing the democratic ethos & channeling dissent through legitimate, non-violent means.
However, for this potential transformation to bear fruit, it is imperative that all stakeholders, government, political parties, civil societies & the people themselves, approach this endeavor with an unwavering commitment to transparency, fairness & accountability.
Trust is the bedrock upon which a healthy democracy thrives & in a region where cynicism and scepticism have taken root, rebuilding that trust will be a collective responsibility. The government must ensure that the electoral process is conducted with utmost integrity, safeguarding against any semblance of manipulation or rigging. Stringent measures must be implemented to uphold the sanctity of the ballot & to instill confidence in the minds of voters.
Political parties too must rise above partisan interests & embrace a spirit of cooperation, recognising that the health of the democratic system transcends individual agendas. They must engage in constructive dialogue, respect the all sects of society & work towards finding common ground on issues that impact the lives of all citizens.
Civil society organisations and media institutions have a crucial role to play in fostering an environment of transparency & accountability. They must serve as watchdogs, scrutinizing the electoral process, amplifying the voices of the people & holding authorities accountable for any lapses or irregularities.
Ultimately, the true power of democracy lies in the hands of the people themselves. It is their engagement their vigilance & their unwavering commitment to exercising their democratic rights that will breathe life into this endeavor. By turning out in large numbers by making informed choices & by holding their representatives accountable.
The decision of these once-banned organisations to consider participating in the electoral process is not merely a symbolic gesture, it carries profound implications for the long-elusive goal of lasting peace in the region.
For too long, the spectre of violence & unrest has cast a pall over the dreams & aspirations of the Kashmiri people. By embracing the democratic process, these groups are taking a courageous step towards rejecting the cycle of conflict & embracing the principles of non-violence & dialogue.
Moreover, their participation would lend credibility & legitimacy to the democratic institutions, diminishing the appeal of extremist narratives & creating a conducive environment for reconciliation & healing.
However, it is imperative to recognise that the road to lasting peace is paved with challenges & obstacles. Decades of mistrust & animosity cannot be erased overnight & there will inevitably be those who seek to derail this fragile process for their own nefarious ends.
Yet, it is in these moments of adversity that the resilience & determination of the people must shine through. By remaining steadfast in their commitment to the democratic ideals, by rejecting the siren call of violence & by embracing a spirit of unity & inclusivity, the people of Jammu & Kashmir can pave the way for a future where peace is not merely a fleeting dream but a tangible reality.
The potential decision of these once-banned organisations to participate in the electoral process is not just a victory for democracy; it is a triumph of hope over despair, of dialogue over conflict & of the indomitable human spirit that yearns for peace & progress.
As this remarkable shift unfolds, the entire nation will be watching with bated breath, eager to witness the transformation of a region long mired in strife into a beacon of hope & inspiration.
For the people of J&K, this moment represents a crossroads, a chance to break free from the shackles of the past and embark on a new journey towards a brighter future. By embracing the democratic process, they are not merely casting ballots, they are casting a vote for peace, for growth & for future.
As the wheels of democracy begin to turn, a new chapter in the region's history is being written, one that promises to usher in an era of reconciliation, prosperity, & unwavering faith in the power of the people.
People across nation are saying that these positive changes are happening because of the strong commitment and hard work of the Central Government along with the LG administration of Jammu & Kashmir. Everyone is appreciating that these banned groups are now willing to participate in the democratic process and stand against terrorism & violence. The current government deserves a lot of praise for creating an environment where such groups feel confident to give up arms and rejoin the mainstream through peaceful means. The leadership of Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Honorable Home Minister Shri Amit Shah has been instrumental in starting this new era of peace & democracy in Jammu and Kashmir after years of unrest. Their policies and outreach have convinced even the hardliners to shun violence and embrace India's democratic traditions. This is a major achievement for the government.
In the end, the true significance of this moment will be measured not by the rhetoric or the promises made, but by the sustained commitment to upholding the principles of democracy and the relentless pursuit of peace for all.
For it is only through the collective efforts of all stakeholders, guided by the unwavering spirit of democracy, that the dreams of the Kashmiri people can be transformed into a living, breathing reality – a reality where the ballot, not the bullet, reigns supreme & where the voices of the people echo through the halls of power, resonating with the promise of a brighter tomorrow.

BJP's Sweeping Victory: A Look at What is Driving Choice Of Bharat.
India just had another massive election and guess what? Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has swept it again. It's like watching a cricket match where one team is hitting sixes in every over, BJP led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji has scored a hat-trick, winning big for the third time in a row in the parliamentary elections. So, what's making majority Indians choose the BJP?
Let's dive in
Let's talk about the man himself SHIRI NARENDRA MODI, Love him or not you can't ignore him. He is like that super star who is in every other movie. Modi's personality is larger than life. He's not just a politician, he became a brand. When you think of the BJP, you think of Modi. His fans see him as a strong leader who's not afraid to make big moves. Remember when he announced demonetization on TV one night? That's the kind of bold step that makes his supporters go, Now that's a decisive leader.
Modi's background plays a big part too. He often talks about his humble beginnings, how he has lived his years before entering politics. Many Indians relate to this rags-to-riches story. They think, If he can make it, maybe we can too. In a country where many feel that politics is a game for the elite, Modi comes across as one of their own. His simple lifestyle, he's not seen in fancy suits or driving luxury cars, adds to this image. It's like he is saying, I'm just like you, working hard for our country.
Now, let's zoom out from Modi to the BJP's big ideas. Their main pitch is, New India or Viksit Bharat. It's a vision where India isn't just getting by, it is thriving. They promise bullet trains, smart cities, digital payments everywhere, basically, turning India into a high-tech wonderland. For a lot of young Indians who've grown up seeing the West's advancements, this is music to their ears. The BJP is saying, Why should we be behind? We can have those shiny things too.
This links to their focus on the economy. The BJP claims that under their rule, India's economy has become more robust. They point to things like the GST (Goods and Services Tax) that unified India's tax system. Before this, different states had different taxes, making business a real headache. Now, it is more streamlined. They also talk about schemes like (Make in India) to boost manufacturing. The idea is to make India a factory for the world, just like China. Many business folks and middle-class Indians who want more jobs & growth see this as a step in the right direction.
Let's not forget nationalism, it's a big part of the BJP's appeal. They champion the idea of a strong, proud India that doesn't bow down to anyone. This strikes a chord with many who feel India hasn't gotten its due respect on the world stage. When there's tension with neighbors like Pakistan or China, the BJP's tough talk resonates. People see them as guardians of the nation's honor. After the Pulwama attack in 2019, India's airstrikes in Pakistan under Modi's leadership were seen as a bold response. Many voters felt, Finally, a government that hits back.
BJP's big moves like building the Ram Temple in Ayodhya or removing Article 370 in Kashmir are seen as fulfilling long-pending desire of patriotic indians. BJP's stance makes these voters think, At least, someone is standing up for our aspirations.
Their work on welfare schemes is another big factor. Programs like Ujjwala Yojana, which provides free gas connections to poor families, have been game-changers. Many women who used to cook with firewood, facing health issues from the smoke, now have clean gas stoves. Similarly, the Swachh Bharat Mission's drive to build toilets has made life easier for millions. Then there's the Jan Dhan Yojana, helping the poor open bank accounts. During Covid, when the government sent cash directly to these accounts, people saw the benefits firsthand. These schemes make many feel that BJP cares for the common person's daily struggles.
Speaking of Covid, BJP's handling of the pandemic has both critics & admirers. Critics point to the tough times during the second wave. But many also praise the government's vaccination drive. India not only vaccinated its huge population but also sent vaccines to other countries. This was seen as India helping the world in a crisis. BJP's supporters say, Look, even rich nations struggled with Covid. Our government did its best in an unprecedented situation.
Infrastructure is another area where BJP claims big wins. Under them, India's been on a road-building spree. Highways are expanding, and even far-flung villages are getting better connected. In cities, there are more metros, airports, and fancy bus stations. For the average person who used to be stuck in traffic or had to take bumpy bus rides, these changes are visible. It's like the country is getting a facelift. BJP's message is, We're not just talking, you can see the progress with your own eyes.
They have also pushed a lot for digital India. Today, nearly everyone uses UPI for payments sending money is as easy as sending a text. The CoWIN app for vaccine bookings or the Aarogya Setu for Covid tracking showed how tech can help in a crisis. Many see India leapfrogging into a digital age under the BJP. For a nation that once struggled with landline phones, having powerful apps in every pocket feels like a tech revolution. The party's pitch is, We're not just catching up, in digital, we're showing the world how it's done.
Now, foreign policy an area where many feel the BJP shines. Under them, India seems more assertive on the global stage. Modi is often seen hugging world leaders, speaking at big international events. Whether it's at the G20 or climate summits, India's voice seems louder. BJP argues that they've improved ties with the West without ditching old friends like Russia. During the Ukraine war, when India bought Russian oil despite Western pressure, many saw it as a smart, independent move. The message is, We're not in anyone's camp, we put India's interests first.
Their supporters also point to less corruption at the top. In the past, India saw big scams that shook people's faith. Under the BJP, while there are allegations at lower levels, there haven't been massive scandals implicating central ministers. Many voters, tired of hearing about crores being stolen, feel relieved. BJP's image is, Our top leaders are clean, they're here to serve, not to get rich.
Let's talk about their election machine, it's something else, BJP is not just active during election months they're on the ground all year. Their workers are always out there, attending local events, helping with community issues. It's like they have an army of volunteers who believe in their cause. Add to this Modi's massive rallies, their smart use of social media, catchy slogans, Many voters feel that BJP is more in touch, always around, not just when they need votes.
Their ideological clarity also attracts many. You might agree or disagree with the BJP, but you generally know where they stand. On issues like Ram Mandir or Kashmir, their position has been consistent for decades. Some see this as a sign of commitment, a party that sticks to its core beliefs. In contrast, they argue that some opponents change stances based on political winds. This consistency makes many think, At least with the BJP, you know what you're getting.
The BJP has also adapted its message for different regions. In South India, where Hindi imposition is a worry, they talk about celebrating all languages. In the Northeast, where there are concerns about mainland dominance, they highlight local leaders and cultural respect. Even in states with strong regional parties, like Bengal or Tamil Nadu, the BJP tries to blend national pride with local sentiments. It's like they're saying, Being a proud Indian doesn't mean giving up your regional identity.
Their pitch to first-time voters is interesting too. A big chunk of Indians voting now were born after India's economic liberalization in the '90s. They didn't see the old socialist days. For them, aspiration is a key, they want opportunities, not just welfare. The BJP's talk of startups, digital innovation, and global success stories appeals to this group. Young voters often say, Other parties talk about what they'll give us, BJP talks about what we can achieve.
Now, the BJP's choice of candidates also plays a part. While they have veteran politicians, they also field fresh faces Advocates, doctors, corporate professionals, actors etc. This sends a message, Politics isn't just for career politicians. In 2019, they gave a ticket to Gautam Gambhir, the cricket star, in Delhi. Such moves excite voters who want outsiders to shake up the system. It's like saying, Don't just vote; you too can join and change things.
Their work on gender issues has won them female supporters too. Schemes like Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (Save the Girl Child, Educate Her) resonate in a country grappling with gender disparities. The push for more toilets has been a boon for rural women who earlier faced risks going out in the dark.
The party's environmental moves have also impressed some. Yes, there are debates about development versus conservation. But initiatives like the solar push, India's now a leader in solar power, show a green turn. Efforts to clean the Ganga, India's holiest yet highly polluted river, mix ecology with tradition. Electric vehicle incentives are nudging cities towards cleaner air. Some urban voters, worried about climate change, see these as positive steps.
Here's another factor—the opposition's disunity. In many states, parties opposing the BJP don't come together. Sometimes they even fight each other more than they fight the BJP! This splits the non-BJP votes. In our voting system, you don't need a majority to win, just more votes than others. So, while the BJP's opponents argue among themselves, BJP often comes through the middle to victory. Many of its supporters say, Even if you don't fully love us, we're more united and decisive than the rest.
There's also a feeling among some that the BJP is a meritocratic party. Unlike some parties seen as family-run, where leadership is almost inherited, the BJP is viewed as more open. Modi himself rose from a humble worker to the top. Many state BJP leaders aren't from political dynasties. This appeals to those who dislike family rule in politics. The message is, In our party, your work speaks, not your surname.
Lastly, there's an emotional angle. BJP often invokes India's ancient glory, the times when it was a global leader in science, arts, and philosophy. They argue that centuries of invasions and colonialism diminished this spirit. Their promise is to restore that lost pride, to make India a Vishwa Guru again. For many who've grown up hearing about India's golden past, this strikes a deep chord. It's not just about GDP growth, it's about reclaiming a grand heritage..
In a democracy, every party's goal is to convince voters that their vision aligns with the nation's needs. As these results show, the BJP has been remarkably successful at doing just that. Whether you're a fan or a critic, understanding why so many are choosing them is key to grasping India's current political landscacom

Venture Capital: Develop a robust venture capital industry to support high-risk, high-reward innovations.
India's Mission 2047 is an ambitious and comprehensive roadmap that aims to transform the country into a global superpower and a self-sufficient economy. By focusing on economic growth, infrastructure development, technological advancement and social progress, India seeks to leverage its demographic dividend and vast potential to achieve extraordinary development over the next 25 years.
The success of this mission will require sustained effort, political will and the active participation of all citizens. It will also necessitate adaptability to changing global dynamics and emerging challenges. However, if executed effectively, India's Mission 2047 has the potential to not only elevate India's status on the world stage but also significantly improve the quality of life for its 1.5 billion citizens.
As India embarks on this transformative journey, it will need to balance rapid development with environmental sustainability, technological advancement with job creation and economic growth with social equity. The road ahead is challenging, but with its rich cultural heritage, demographic advantage and growing capabilities in various sectors, India is well-positioned to realize its vision of becoming a global superpower by 2047.
The realization of India's Mission 2047 will not only be a testament to the country's progress but also contribute significantly to global development, innovation and stability. As India rises, it has the potential to be a force for good in the world, promoting peace, sustainability and inclusive growth on a global scale.
Disturbing increase in elder abuse incidents
Elders: Shocking Rise in Abuse,
A Desperate Call to Revive Our Sacred Duty
In recent times, we've heard some very sad news. Some children have been treating their old parents badly. This is not how things should be. Let's talk about why this is happening and what we can do to make things better.
Unfortunately there have been stories in the news or in socialmedia that make us feel upset and ashamed as society.
- Some sons killed their father for money
- Eight sons threw their old father out of the house
- A son beat his father and mother in public
- Another son beat his widowed mother for money to purchase drugs
- There are many more stories of hurting or abusing elders which remain untold and unheard.
These stories are hard to hear and more hard to comment on, They make us wonder what's happening to our society. This kind of behavior wasn't common before. It goes against everything we believe in.
Our land is known as (Peer Veer) (Reshi Veer) the Garden of Saints. It's a place where people respect each other and care for one another. We have a long history of being kind and looking after those who need help.
This new trend of hurting old parents doesn't fit with our culture. It's not part of our civilization. We've always believed in taking care of our elders. They are the ones who taught us everything we know. They made us who we are today.
They took care of us, When we were little, our parents did everything good for us. They fed us, clothed us and kept us safe. Now it's our turn to do the same for them.
They sacrificed for us, Many parents give up their own dreams to make sure their children have a good life. They work hard so we can have nice things and go to good schools.
They love us, Parents love their children no matter what. Even when we make mistakes, they still care for us. We should show them the same love when they're old.
It's the right thing to do, Taking care of those who can't take care of themselves is a good thing. It shows we are kind and caring people.
We learn from them, Old people have lived long lives. They have lots of stories and wisdom to share. By spending time with them, we can learn many valuable things.
It makes us better people, When we care for others, it helps us grow as individuals. We become more patient, understanding and compassionate.
As children, we have certain duties towards our parents, especially when they get old:
Provide basic needs, We should make sure our parents have food, clothing and a place to live. They shouldn't have to worry about these things in their old age.
Give them medical care, Old people often need more medical attention. It's our job to take them to doctors and make sure they get the right treatment.
Spend time with them, Many old people feel lonely. We should visit them often and include them in family activities.
Show respect, We should always speak to our parents with respect. Even if we disagree with them, we shouldn't be rude or shout at them.
Help with daily tasks, As people get older, simple tasks can become difficult. We should help our parents with things like shopping, cleaning, or using new technology.
Keep them safe, We need to make sure our parents are safe from harm. This includes protecting them from accidents at home and from people who might try to cheat them.
Listen to them, Our parents have feelings and opinions too. We should listen to what they have to say and consider their advice.
Include them in decisions, When making big family decisions, we should ask our parents what they think. Their experience can be very helpful.
Besides duties, we also have responsibilities towards our parents
Financial support, If our parents don't have enough money, we should help them. This could mean giving them money regularly or paying for big expenses.
Emotional support, Old age can be a tough time. We should be there for our parents when they feel sad or worried.
Be patient, Sometimes old people can be slow or forgetful. We need to be patient and kind, even when it's frustrating.
Keep them active, We should encourage our parents to stay active and involved in life. This could mean helping them find hobbies or taking them out to meet people.
Advocate for them, If our parents need help from the government or other organizations, we should speak up for them.
Plan for the future, We should talk to our parents about what they want as they get older. This includes discussing things like where they want to live and what kind of care they prefer.
Set a good example, By taking care of our parents, we teach our own children how to treat us when we get old.
Balance responsibilities, We need to find a way to take care of our parents while also managing our own families and work.
Just like children have rights, parents also have rights, especially when they're old.
Right to dignity, Parents have the right to be treated with respect and dignity. They shouldn't be insulted or made to feel worthless.
Right to basic needs, They have the right to food, shelter, and clothing. These should be provided even if they can't afford it themselves.
Right to health care, Old parents have the right to proper medical care. This includes regular check-ups and treatment for illnesses.
Right to safety, They have the right to live in a safe environment, free from abuse or neglect.
Right to property, Parents have the right to own and manage their property. Their children shouldn't force them to give it up.
Right to make decisions, As long as they're mentally capable, parents have the right to make decisions about their own lives.
Right to socialize, They have the right to meet friends and participate in social activities.
Right to love and affection, Parents have the right to receive love and emotional support from their children.
Why Are Some Children Mistreating Their Parents?
It's hard to understand why anyone would hurt their own parents. But there are some reasons why this might be happening:
Money problems, Sometimes, children are struggling with money. They might see their parents as a burden and get angry about having to support them.
Lack of time, Many people are very busy with work and their own families. They might feel stressed about having to care for their parents too.
Change in family structure, In the past, many families lived together. Now, more people live in small houses with just their spouse and children. There might not be room for parents.
Loss of respect, Some people have lost respect for old people. They think old people aren't useful anymore.
Selfishness, Some children only think about themselves. They don't want to give up their comfort to help their parents.
Drug/alcohol or like problems When people are addicted to drugs or alcohol, they sometimes do bad things, even to their own family.
Mental health issues, Sometimes, people who hurt their parents might have mental health problems that make them act in harmful ways.
Lack of awareness, Some people might not realize how important it is to care for their parents. They might not have been taught about this duty.
What Can We Do to Stop This?
Seeing parents being mistreated is very upsetting. But there are things we can do to help:
Teach children about respect, We need to teach young people to respect their elders. This should start from a young age, both at home and in schools.
Make laws stronger, There should be strict laws to protect old people from abuse. These laws should be enforced properly.
Provide support services, Government and community groups should offer services to help families care for old people. This could include day care centers or home help services.
Raise awareness, We should talk more about the importance of caring for old parents. This can be done through TV shows, newspapers and community meetings.
Offer counseling, Families who are having trouble caring for old parents should be able to get help from counselors.
Create support groups, We can start groups where people caring for old parents can meet and share their experiences. This can help them feel less alone.
Improve healthcare, Better and more affordable healthcare for old people can make it easier for families to care for them.
Golden card / Ayushman Health card is a great initiative of health care revolution in India but there should be single window system for senior citizens.
Encourage family values, We should celebrate families that take good care of their old members. This can inspire others to do the same.
Address root causes, We need to look at why some children are mistreating their parents. If it's because of money problems or stress, we should find ways to help with these issues.
Report abuse, If we see or hear about old people being mistreated, we should report it to the authorities. We shouldn't stay quiet about it.
What Can Society Do?
As a society, we need to take strong steps to stop these bad things from happening:
Make it a priority, We often talk about problems like drugs and violence. We should also talk about how to treat old people better.
Change our thinking, We need to see caring for old parents as something good, not as a burden.
Create age-friendly cities, Our towns / villages / cities / muhallas / colonies should be easy for old people to live in. This means things like having ramps for wheelchairs and special services for the elderly.
Encourage multi-generation living, We can find ways to make it easier for families to live together or close to each other.
Provide financial help, The government could give money or tax breaks to people who are caring for their old parents.
Government is providing old age funds to senior citizens or widows which is a golden move but there should be a little increment in this amount and disbursing of funds should be kept under proper supervision.
Train caregivers, We can have programs to teach people how to take care of old people properly.
Use technology, We can use new technologies to help keep old people safe and connected with their families or purchasing medicines online or teach them to book a cab or taxi online, as we have a sufficient online cab / taxi services available now in kashmir too
Celebrate old age, Instead of seeing old age as a problem, we should celebrate the wisdom and experience of our elders.
Why We Can't Stay Silent?
We can't just keep quiet about this problem. Here's why:
It's getting worse, If we don't do something, more and more old people might be mistreated.
It affects everyone, Today it might be someone else's parents, but tomorrow it could be our own parents or even us.
It's against our values, Hurting old people goes against everything we believe in as a society.
It's unfair, Our parents gave up so much for us. It's not fair to abandon them when they need us.
It's a sign of bigger problems, When a society doesn't care for its old people, it shows that something is wrong with its values.
It's our responsibility, As members of society, we have a duty to protect those who can't protect themselves.
It sets a bad example, If we allow this to happen, we're teaching the next generation that it's okay to mistreat old people.
It causes suffering, When old people are mistreated, they suffer both physically and emotionally. We should try to prevent this suffering.
Remembering Our Parents' Sacrifices
When we think about how to treat our parents, we should remember all they've done for us:
They gave us life, Our parents brought us into this world and cared for us when we couldn't care for ourselves.
They educated us, Many parents work hard to send their children to good schools. They want us to have better lives than they had.
They protected us, Our parents kept us safe from harm when we were young. They worried about us and did everything they could to protect us.
They supported our dreams, Many parents encourage their children to follow their dreams, even if it means making sacrifices themselves.
They loved us unconditionally, No matter what we did, our parents still loved us. They forgave our mistakes and stood by us.
They taught us values, Our parents taught us right from wrong. They showed us how to be good people.
They made us strong, By supporting us and sometimes letting us face challenges, our parents helped us become strong and independent.
They put us first, Many times, our parents put our needs before their own. They went without things so we could have what we needed.
The way some children are treating their old parents is very sad. It goes against everything our society believes in. We can't just sit back and let this happen. We need to take action.
We should remember that our parents gave up so much for us. They worked hard, saved money and did everything they could to give us good lives. Now it's our turn to take care of them.
As a society, we need to make caring for old people a top priority. We should teach our children to respect and value older people. We should create laws and services that protect and support the elderly.
Each of us has a role to play. We can start by treating our own parents with love and respect. We can help our neighbors who might be struggling to care for their old parents. We can speak up when we see old people being mistreated.
Taking care of our parents isn't always easy. It can be hard work and sometimes it's stressful. But it's the right thing to do. It's part of being a good person and a good member of society.
Let's work together to make our community a place where old people are valued and cared for. Let's show the world that in our land - the garden of saints - (Peer Veer) (Reshi Veer) we know how to respect and honor our elders. This is what our civilization is all about. This is who we are. Let's make sure we never forget it.

PEACE IS MY RIGHT
Violence has no place in my Land, Emphasizing the importance of Peace.
Understanding and addressing communal, religious and regional Conflicts.
In the modern world where we pride ourselves on progress and civilization, it is deeply troubling that violence continues to plague our communities. Whether stemming from religious differences, regional disputes or communal tensions, violence represents a failure of humanity's highest ideals and aspirations. Impact of various forms of violence on society and explores constructive ways to build lasting peace.
Understanding Different Forms of Violence, Communal violence tears at the very fabric of society, destroying relationships between neighbors who have often lived together peacefully for generations. When people turn against each other based on community identity, the damage goes far beyond physical destruction. It creates deep psychological wounds and breaks bonds of trust that may take generations to rebuild.
The triggers for communal violence are often deceptively small - a minor dispute or misunderstanding that gets inflamed by those with vested interests in creating discord. Historic grievances, economic competition, and political manipulation can transform local tensions into large-scale conflict. What makes communal violence particularly tragic is how it turns ordinary people against those they once considered friends and neighbors.
Religious Violence, in the name of religion represents a profound perversion of faith. All major religions teach peace, compassion, and respect for human life. Yet throughout history, religious differences have been exploited to justify terrible acts of violence. When faith becomes a source of division rather than unity, when religious identity becomes a reason to hate rather than love, we betray the core teachings of our spiritual traditions.
Religious violence often stems from a misunderstanding or misinterpretation of religious teachings. Those who incite such violence typically cherry-pick religious texts out of context while ignoring the overwhelming message of peace and brotherhood that lies at the heart of all faiths. No religion sanctions the killing of innocent people or the spreading of hatred.
Regional Violence whether between states or within regions of a country, usually has complex historical, political, and economic roots. Border disputes, competition over resources, perceived inequalities, and separatist movements can all spark regional conflicts. Such violence not only costs lives but also stunts development, perpetuates poverty and creates lasting instability.
The Kashmir Situation The ongoing violence in Kashmir represents one of the most tragic examples of how multiple forms of conflict can intersect and reinforce each other. The targeting of civilians in Kashmir deserves the strongest condemnation. No cause, no ideology, and no grievance can justify the killing of innocent people. Such acts not only violate basic human rights but also make lasting peace more difficult to achieve.
The civilian casualties in Kashmir reflect a broader failure to resolve disputes through peaceful means. Each innocent life lost represents not just a personal tragedy for the family involved but a collective failure of humanity. The killing of civilians by non-state actors, must be universally condemned and those responsible held accountable.
Violence fractures communities and destroys social cohesion. It creates an atmosphere of fear and suspicion where normal life becomes impossible. Children grow up traumatized, education is disrupted and economic activity grinds to a halt. The social fabric that holds communities together - trust, cooperation, mutual respect - gets torn apart.
Even after the immediate violence ends, its effects continue to ripple through society. Displaced people struggle to rebuild their lives, broken families try to cope with their losses, and communities grapple with the challenge of reconciliation. The psychological scars of violence can be passed down through generations, creating cycles of trauma and revenge.
Violence imposes enormous economic costs on society. Beyond the immediate destruction of property and infrastructure, it creates long-term economic disruption. Investment flees from conflict-prone areas, businesses close down, and unemployment rises. The resources that could be used for development and poverty alleviation get diverted to security measures and reconstruction.
The psychological impact of violence extends far beyond those directly involved. Living in a climate of violence affects people's mental health, creating anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Children who grow up in violent environments may normalize violence, perpetuating cycles of conflict into the next generation.
Nation Building or Building Peace, A Constructive Approach, Education and Awareness Education plays a crucial role in preventing violence and building peace. Schools and educational institutions should actively promote understanding and respect for different communities, religions and cultures. Young people need to learn about the devastating consequences of violence and the importance of peaceful conflict resolution.
Peace education should go beyond theoretical knowledge to include practical skills in conflict resolution, empathy building, and cross-cultural communication. Students should be encouraged to question prejudices and stereotypes they may have absorbed from their environment.
Interfaith and Intercommunity Dialogue Regular dialogue between different religious and community groups helps build understanding and prevent conflicts from escalating. Such dialogue should involve not just religious leaders but also ordinary community members. When people from different backgrounds interact regularly and get to know each other as individuals, it becomes harder to maintain stereotypes and prejudices.
Dialogue forums should address not just religious and cultural differences but also practical issues affecting communities. Joint problem-solving on common concerns can help build bridges across divides.
Civil societies, NGOs and other organizations play a vital role in preventing violence and building peace. They can serve as early warning systems for potential conflicts, facilitate dialogue between communities and provide platforms for peaceful resolution of disputes. Civil society groups can also help document human rights violations and advocate for justice.
The media has a crucial responsibility in promoting peace and preventing violence. Responsible journalism means avoiding sensationalism, fact-checking before publishing inflammatory claims, and giving voice to moderate perspectives. Media outlets should actively promote stories of peace and cooperation between communities rather than focusing solely on conflict.
Governments must take firm action against those who incite or perpetrate violence while addressing the underlying causes of conflict, including Strengthening law enforcement to prevent violence while ensuring it operates within human rights frameworks Addressing economic inequalities and ensuring fair distribution of resources Protecting minority rights and promoting inclusive governance Implementing conflict-sensitive development policies Creating institutional mechanisms for peaceful dispute resolution
Each individual has a role to play in preventing violence and building peace, Refusing to participate in or support any form of violence Speaking out against hate speech and incitement Building friendships across community and religious lines Teaching children the values of peace and respect for diversity Supporting peace-building initiatives in their communities
Preventing violence requires a comprehensive approach that addresses both immediate triggers and underlying causes. Early Warning Systems Communities need to develop systems to identify and respond to potential conflicts before they escalate into violence. This includes monitoring hate speech, tracking communal tensions and addressing grievances before they lead to violence.
Poverty and economic inequality often contribute to violence. Promoting inclusive economic development, creating employment opportunities, and ensuring fair access to resources can help reduce the likelihood of conflict.
Cultural Exchange will be one among most effective programs, Programs that promote cultural exchange and understanding can help break down barriers between communities. This could include joint cultural celebrations, sports events, and artistic collaborations.
Engaging youth in peace process should be a priority, Young people should be actively involved in peace-building efforts. Their energy and idealism can be channeled into positive activities that promote understanding and cooperation between communities.
Women's Participation is more important and Women often bear the brunt of violence while being excluded from peace-building processes. Ensuring women's active participation in conflict prevention and peace-building is essential for sustainable peace.
Healing and Reconciliation will be an effective remedy, Communities that have experienced violence need support in healing and reconciliation, Truth-telling and acknowledgment of past wrongs Trauma healing programs, Joint community rebuilding projects, Support for victims and their families, Programs to reintegrate former perpetrators of violence
Building lasting peace requires patience and persistence. Quick fixes and superficial solutions won't address deep-rooted problems. We need a long-term vision that includes, Sustained commitment to peace education Continuous dialogue between communities Regular evaluation and adjustment of peace-building strategies Investment in economic development and social justice Support for institutions that promote peace and harmony
Violence in any form - communal, religious, or regional - has no place in a civilized society. The killing of civilians, as seen in Kashmir and other conflict zones, must be unequivocally condemned. However, condemnation alone is not enough. We must work actively to build peace through education, dialogue and concrete action at all levels of society.
Each of us has a responsibility to promote peace and prevent violence. This means examining our own prejudices, reaching out across divides, and working together to build a society where differences are respected and conflicts are resolved peacefully. Only through sustained collective effort can we hope to create a world where violence becomes truly unthinkable.
The path to peace may be long and challenging, but it is the only way forward for humanity. Every step taken toward understanding, every bridge built between communities, every act of reconciliation brings us closer to this goal. The choice between violence and peace is one we make not just as societies but as individuals, every single day. Let us choose peace.

Parents Face Jail, Fine or both for Underage Driving in J&K UT
Landmark Safety Notification Targets Negligent Guardians
In a landmark decision aimed at curbing the dangerous practice of underage driving, Government of J&K UT has issued a strict notification that has sent ripples through communities across UT. This comprehensive circular specifically targets parents whose minor children, those below 18 years of age, are caught operating vehicles without valid driving licenses. The notification clearly states that such parents will face imprisonment along with substantial monetary fines, marking a significant shift in how authorities plan to address the growing concern of rash and negligent driving.
The government's decision comes in response to the alarming increase in road accidents involving underage drivers in UT mostly in Srinagar and its out skirts in recent weeks, Statistical data from various traffic authorities has shown a disturbing trend where teenagers, without proper training or legal permits, have been involved in numerous accidents, some of which have had fatal consequences, These incidents have not only resulted in the tragic loss of young lives but have also endangered other road users, leading to a serious public safety concern.
The primary reason behind targeting parents rather than just the minor offenders is the understanding that parents are the primary guardians and decision-makers in a child's life. Many cases have revealed that parents themselves often enable such dangerous behavior, either by explicitly allowing their children to drive or by being negligent in securing their vehicles. Some parents have been found giving vehicle keys to their underage children for running errands, while others have even gifted two-wheelers or cars to their children well before they reach the legal driving age.
Under the new notification, parents whose children are caught driving will face severe consequences. The punishment includes imprisonment depending on the severity of the violation. In cases where accidents occur, especially those resulting in injuries or fatalities, the imprisonment term could be extended to three or more years based on severity of case.
The financial penalties are equally stringent. Parents will be required to pay substantial huge fines even for basic violations or in cases involving accidents. These fines are deliberately kept high to serve as a strong deterrent. Additionally, the vehicle used in the violation may be seized by authorities and the parent's own driving license could be suspended or cancelled.
The notification has also outlined silent guidelines/suggestions for Socially responsible citizens / organisations. Traffic police departments across cities have been instructed to conduct regular checks near schools, colleges and other areas where underage driving is commonly reported. They will use various tools, including CCTV cameras and manual verification, to identify and apprehend violators. The police have also been directed to maintain detailed records of offenders to track repeat violations.
Schools and educational institutions have been brought into the framework as well. They are now required to conduct regular awareness programs about road safety and the legal implications of underage driving. Schools must also monitor how their students commute and immediately report any instances of underage driving to both the parents and relevant authorities.
The response to this notification has been mixed, though largely positive. Many responsible parents have welcomed the move, acknowledging that it was a necessary step to ensure road safety and protect young lives. They believe that such strict measures will help to create a more disciplined and law-abiding society. These parents understand that temporary convenience should never compromise their children's safety or the safety of others on the road.
However, some parents have expressed concerns about the severity of the punishments and the handling of emergency situations. They worry about cases where children might take vehicles without their knowledge or forcefully, the authorities have assured that each case will be examined on its merits.
Education and awareness form a crucial part of this initiative. The government has mandated regular workshops and awareness programs for both parents and children. These sessions cover various aspects of road safety, traffic rules and the legal implications of violations. They may also provide practical guidance on how parents can ensure their children don't have access to vehicles and what alternative transportation arrangements can be made.
Experts are advising that the economic implications of violations should be design to significant enough to deter even wealthy families from flouting the rules. Apart from the direct fines, there should be additional costs involved in legal proceedings, vehicle retrieval if seized and mandatory attendance at safety programs. Insurance companies should be directed to review their policies regarding accidents involving underage drivers.
The role of community involvement has been emphasized in the successful implementation of this notification. Residential welfare associations, community groups and local authorities should be encouraged to work together to create awareness and ensure compliance. Many communities have already started neighborhood watch programs to identify and report instances of underage driving.
Police department should begin setting up special helplines where citizens can report violations or restored if already exists. These reports are treated confidentially to protect the identity of those providing information. This system will definitely show positive results in busy cities, with many potential accidents can be prevented through timely intervention.
The impact of this notification is expected to be far-reaching. Early implementation in several areas has shown promising results, with a noticeable reduction in the number of underage driving cases. More importantly, there's been a visible change in parents' attitudes towards allowing their minor children to drive. Many parents who previously took a lenient view of underage driving are now actively discouraging it.
The notification has also led to increased awareness about road safety in general. Schools report that students are showing more interest in learning about traffic rules and understanding the importance of proper driving licenses. Many teenagers are now waiting to reach the legal age before learning to drive, showing a positive shift in attitude.
The medical community has strongly supported this move, citing numerous cases of accidents involving underage drivers that they have had to deal with. Emergency room doctors and trauma specialists have shared their experiences of treating young accident victims, reinforcing the importance of preventing underage driving.
To ensure proper implementation, the government should establish a monitoring system where regular reports from different areas can be monitored, This data will help in identifying areas where enforcement needs to be strengthened and where additional awareness programs might be required.
The media has played a crucial role in spreading awareness about this notification. News channels, newspapers and social media platforms have been actively sharing information about the new rules and their implications. Success stories from different cities where the implementation has shown positive results are being highlighted to encourage compliance.
Looking ahead, the government should plane to further strengthen this initiative by incorporating technology-based solutions for better monitoring and enforcement. This includes the use of artificial intelligence in traffic cameras to identify underage drivers and automatic alert systems to notify authorities of violations.
The initiative by government has also led to discussions about the need for better urban planning that takes into account the transportation needs of young people. Many city planners are now working on developing safer pedestrian zones, dedicated cycle tracks and improved public transportation systems that can provide alternatives to private vehicle use by minors.
Legal experts have praised the notification for its clarity and comprehensive approach. They point out that by holding parents accountable, the notification addresses the root cause of the problem rather than just treating the symptoms. The legal framework has been designed to be both punitive and reformative, with provisions for counseling and awareness programs alongside penalties.
As this notification completes its initial implementation phase, the results are encouraging. Cities report fewer instances of underage driving and there's a greater awareness among parents about their responsibilities. The message is clear - safety of our children cannot be compromised and parents must play their part in ensuring that traffic rules are followed.
The success of this initiative ultimately depends on the cooperation between authorities, parents, schools, and communities. By working together, they can create a safer environment on our roads and instill a sense of responsibility in the younger generation. This notification is not just about preventing underage driving, it's about creating a culture of road safety and responsible parenting that will benefit society as a whole.
The government's firm stance on this issue, backed by strict penalties and comprehensive implementation measures, shows its commitment to road safety and the protection of young lives. As more parents understand and accept their role in preventing underage driving, we move closer to the goal of safer roads for everyone. This notification may seem strict to some, but its ultimate aim is to protect our children and create a more responsible society.

RICH HERITAGE OF KASHMIR International_Pheran_Day
Let's celebrate the International Pheran Day by Remembering our Rich Heritage.
The story of Kashmir is like a beautifully woven the intricate designs found on a traditional Women (tilla) pheran. While today many celebrate International Pheran Day by wearing this traditional Kashmiri garment, the true essence of Kashmiri culture runs much deeper, flowing like the gentle waters of the Dal Lake through centuries of history.
Kashmir's history stretches back thousands of years, finding mention in ancient Sanskrit texts where it was known as "Kashyapameru." The valley, surrounded by hills and mountains, was once a vast lake according to geological studies. Ancient legends tell us that the great sage Kashyapa drained this lake, creating the fertile valley that would become home to one of the world's most unique cultures.
-
In those early days, Kashmir became a center of learning and spiritual thought. The region saw the flourishing of Buddhism, with the great ruler Ashoka establishing monasteries and stupas across the valley in the 3rd century BCE. These Buddhist establishments existed harmoniously alongside ancient Hindu temples, setting an early precedent for the religious tolerance that would become a hallmark of Kashmiri culture.
During what historians often call Kashmir's golden age (8th-12th centuries CE), the valley became a renowned center of Sanskrit learning and literary culture. The great philosopher Abhinavagupta wrote his masterpieces here, while countless scholars debated philosophy and composed poetry in the Sanskrit language. This period saw the development of Kashmir Shaivism, a unique philosophical tradition that emphasized the unity of all existence.
What makes this period remarkable wasn't just the scholarly achievements, but how different traditions and thoughts coexisted and enriched each other. Hindu temples stood alongside Buddhist viharas, while scholars from different faiths engaged in peaceful discourse and debate.
When Islam arrived in Kashmir around the 14th century, it didn't lead to the erasure of existing traditions but rather to a beautiful synthesis. This period saw the rise of what became known as "Kashmiriyat" A unique cultural ethos that emphasized religious tolerance, mutual respect and shared traditions.
The peace preacher great Sufi saint Sheikh Noor-ud-din Noorani, also known as Nund Rishi by Pandit communities (Kashmiri Hindus) embodied this synthesis. His teachings combined message of peace in Islamic spirituality with local wisdom traditions, and his shrines became places where people of all faiths would gather. He taught in the local language, making spiritual wisdom accessible to common people and his verses still resonate through the valley today, Only international airport of valley SHEIKH UL ALAM International Airport is named after the of the Sufi saint.
The same period saw Great Hindu saints like Lalleshwari (Lal Ded) (Lal) her name and (Ded) refers to Mother in Kashmiri language whose vakhs (verses) became part of both Hindu and Muslim spiritual traditions. She wandered the valley wearing a pheran, teaching wisdom that transcended religious boundaries. Her teachings influenced both the Sufi and Rishi traditions of Kashmir, showing how spiritual wisdom could bridge apparent religious divides, Kashmir's only super specialised Maternity Hospital is named after her name LAL DED Hospital.
One of the most remarkable aspects of Kashmiri culture has been its tradition of hospitality. The Kashmiri saying "Poch chu yiwan barket heth" (guests are along with Allah's mercy) reflects this deep-rooted value. Traditional Kashmiri homes would always keep extra food ready for unexpected guests and no visitor would leave without being offered kehwa (traditional Kashmiri tea) and local delicacies.
This hospitality wasn't limited to individual homes but was a societal practice. Travelers would find rest houses (Sarayis) maintained by local communities where they could stay without charge. During religious festivals and pilgrimages, people of different faiths would help each other, with Muslims often helping Hindu pilgrims on their yatras and Hindus participating in Muslim festivals as well.
The pheran, while being a practical garment designed to keep people warm during harsh winters, became a symbol of this shared culture. Both Muslims and Hindus wore it and its design evolved to incorporate influences from various periods of Kashmir's history. The garment didn't distinguish between faiths or social status, it was worn by everyone from scholars to farmers, symbolizing the unity in diversity that characterised Kashmiri society.
Traditional craftspeople would spend months embroidering pherans with intricate (tilla work) shimmering thread embroidery creating patterns that often combined motifs from different cultural traditions. The art of making and decorating pherans became a shared heritage, passed down through generations regardless of religious affiliations.
The true beauty of Kashmir's heritage lay in how different communities shared their daily lives. Markets (bazaars) would see Hindu and Muslim shopkeepers working side by side. The famous floating markets on Dal Lake would have boats from all communities trading vegetables, flowers and handicrafts.
During weddings, entire neighborhoods would participate in celebrations regardless of religion. Muslim neighbors would help in Hindu weddings and vice versa. The wazwan (traditional feast) would be prepared by mostly Muslim cooks (wazas) for celebrations in both communities, Yes Dhum Aaloo was key dish among Pandits and Korma among Muslims. The same musical instruments would play at both Hindu and Muslim festivities and similar rituals would mark important life events.
Kashmiri culture gave significant importance to women's education and participation in society. From ancient times, women like Lalleshwari became religious and literary figures. The tradition continued with women playing important roles in maintaining and transmitting cultural knowledge.
Women were often the keepers of traditional knowledge about herbs, medicines and seasonal rituals. They would gather in courtyards during winter evenings, spinning wool and telling stories that kept historical memory alive. These gatherings were important spaces for cultural transmission and community bonding.
The Kashmiri language itself became a testament to the region's synthetic culture. It incorporated words from Sanskrit, Persian and local dialects, creating a unique linguistic tradition. Kashmiri literature, whether written by Hindu or Muslim authors, drew from this common vocabulary and shared cultural references.
Poets like Habba Khatoon wrote verses that became part of everyone's cultural memory. The tradition of poetry recitation (mehfils) would see works of poets from all communities being celebrated. The same metaphors and imagery the chinars, the mountains, the lakes appeared in works across religious boundaries.
The calendar year in Kashmir was marked by festivals that often transcended religious boundaries. The arrival of spring would be celebrated by all communities with similar customs. During harsh winters, people would gather around the kangri (traditional fire pot) sharing stories and keeping alive oral traditions that belonged to everyone.
Even religious festivals often saw participation across community lines. The shrines would see Hindu devotees offering prayers alongside Muslims. Similarly, many Muslims were to look after the Mandirs in far flung areas and would participate in Hindu festivals and offcourse Yatras, especially those festivals associated with seasons and harvests.
The craft traditions whether it was papier-mache, carpet weaving or wood carving developed through contributions from artisans of all communities. Designs would often combine motifs from different traditions, creating a unique aesthetic that was distinctly Kashmiri while drawing from multiple sources.
Throughout its history, Kashmir developed mechanisms for maintaining peace and resolving conflicts at the community level. Village elders from all communities would come together to settle disputes. The tradition of respect for spiritual leaders across religious lines helped maintain social harmony.
When natural disasters struck, communities would help each other rebuild. During times of scarcity, resources would be shared. This spirit of mutual help and understanding was not just an ideal but a practical way of life that evolved over centuries.
Today, as we celebrate International Pheran Day, it's important to remember that wearing a pheran is just one small but Important part of this rich heritage. The true essence of Kashmiri culture lies in its tradition of peaceful coexistence, its emphasis on learning and wisdom and its practice of genuine hospitality.
The lesson from Kashmir's history is not just about tolerance but about active appreciation of diversity. It shows how different traditions can enrich each other while maintaining their distinctiveness. The heritage of Kashmir reminds us that culture is not about isolated symbols but about how people live together, share their lives and create beauty through their interactions.
As we move forward in an increasingly divided world, Kashmir's cultural heritage offers important lessons. It shows that different communities can maintain their distinct identities while sharing a common cultural space. It demonstrates how spiritual traditions can enrich rather than divide people and how daily life can become an expression of deeper cultural values.
The true celebration of Kashmir's heritage, therefore, lies not in symbolic gestures but in understanding and living these deeper values of peace, harmony and hospitality. It's about recognising that culture is not frozen in time but is a living tradition that must be actively practiced and passed on to future generations.
The pheran remains an important symbol, but it's the warmth of heart it represents – the warmth that welcomed travelers, that shared resources, that celebrated differences while finding common ground, that is the true essence of Kashmir's heritage. This is the legacy that needs to be remembered, celebrated and most importantly, lived.

They Snatched My Childhood PURCHASE HERE FROM AMAZON
From a Fearful Tragedy to a Peace Warrior,
The Inspiring and Tearful Journey of Sajid Yousuf Shah
A review by ZAMAN NOOR
In the paradise on earth, where beauty often mingles with pain, emerges a story of remarkable resilience, the story of Sajid Yousuf Shah. His book "They Snatched My Childhood" isn't just another tale, it's a raw account of a night that changed everything when a mother was brutally murdered and left a crying young boy to face the world alone.
But what makes Sajid's story extraordinary isn't just the tragedy he endured, it's how he chose to respond to it. Instead of letting darkness consume him, he picked up a pen, a weapon mightier than any gun, to fight back against violence and extremism in Kashmir.
"When they took my mother from me, they thought they would break me," Sajid once shared during a peace conference. "Instead, they gave birth to a warrior for peace." These words perfectly capture the essence of a man who refused to let personal loss define his path.
Today, Sajid wears many hats, he's an advocate by profession, a well renowned author, a thoughtful columnist and heads the media department for a national political party. But perhaps his most significant role is as the founder of TRK (The Real Kashmir News), a media house that strives to show Kashmir's true face to the world.
His physical as well as intellectual involvement in initiatives like "Akhir Kab Tak" and "Tiranga on Clock Tower" stand out as beacons of hope in Kashmir's journey toward peace. These weren't just events, they were statements bold declarations that Kashmir's youth choose peace over violence, unity over division.
"Akhir Kab Tak" became a platform where young Kashmiris could voice their frustration with violence and their dreams of peace. The "Tiranga on Clock Tower" initiative, meanwhile, showed Kashmir's deep connection with India's democratic values and peaceful aspirations.
I remember meeting Sajid bhai for the first time in 2017. His words sparked something in me, a desire to tell stories that matter. That meeting marked the beginning of my own writing journey. Today, as I near the completion of my first book, I can't help but think of how one person's courage can inspire so many others.
What makes Sajid's work unique is his ability to speak hard truths with compassion. His media house, TRK, doesn't just report news, it builds bridges of understanding. Through his columns and write-ups, he shows that Kashmir's story isn't just about conflict, it's about resilience, hope, and the unwavering spirit of its people.
As an advocate, Sajid fights for justice in the courtroom. As a writer, he fights for truth on paper. As a media head, he fights for balanced narratives in the public sphere. But in all these roles, one thing remains constant - his commitment to peace.
"We can't change what happened in the past," he often says, "but we can certainly shape what happens next." This philosophy drives his work with youth in Kashmir, encouraging them to choose pens over stones, dialogue over violence.
The success of his book "They Snatched My Childhood" lies not just in its honest portrayal of personal loss but in its message of hope. It shows that even from the deepest tragedy can emerge the strongest advocates for peace.
His work with various peace initiatives in Kashmir has created a ripple effect. Young people who once felt trapped between extremist ideologies and hopelessness now see a different path, one of constructive engagement and peaceful resistance against violence.
Through TRK, Sajid has created a platform that showcases Kashmir's positive stories, stories of achievement, brotherhood and progress that often get overshadowed by conflict narratives. This media house has become a voice for those who believe in Kashmir's peaceful future.
What makes Sajid bhai special isn't just his achievements, it's his accessibility and genuine desire to help others. Despite his busy schedule, he remains a mentor and well-wisher to many young writers and peace activists in Kashmir.
His journey from a traumatized child to a champion of peace serves as a powerful reminder that our response to tragedy defines us more than the tragedy itself. Through his work, Sajid has shown that the best revenge against violence is to create more paths to peace.
As Kashmir continues its journey toward lasting peace, voices like Sajid's become increasingly important. They remind us that peace isn't just the absence of violence, it's the presence of justice, understanding and opportunity.
For someone who lost his childhood to violence, Sajid has devoted his life to ensuring other children don't face the same fate. His story isn't just about survival, it's about transformation from victim to victor, from tragedy to triumph.
To me, and to many others in Kashmir, Sajid bhai represents hope. He shows us that even in our darkest moments, we can choose to light a candle rather than curse the darkness. His journey continues to inspire a new generation of peace warriors in Kashmir, proving that the mightiest weapon against violence isn't another weapon, it's the courage to choose peace, again and again.

Using AI to Write: A Helping Hand, Not a Replacement
In today's fast-moving world, artificial intelligence has become a valuable tool for many writers, journalists and communication professionals. While AI can help create articles, columns and press releases, it falls short in one important area, the ability to infuse genuine human emotions and deep personal experiences into words. This limitation means that while AI is a useful assistant, it cannot truly replace human authors, writers and intellectuals.
When we look at how AI writes, we can see both its strengths and weaknesses. AI systems can quickly gather information, organize ideas and create well-structured content. They can check grammar, suggest better word choices, and even help make writing clearer. For busy professionals working on press releases or news articles, this can save precious time and help them meet tight deadlines.
Think about a newspaper office where journalists are rushing to cover multiple stories. AI can help them draft initial reports, gather basic facts and create simple news updates. This gives reporters more time to focus on in-depth investigation, conducting interviews and adding the human touch to their stories. Similarly, public relations professionals can use AI to create first drafts of press releases, letting them spend more time on strategy and building relationships with their audiences.
However, writing is much more than just putting words together in the right order. True writing comes from human experiences, feelings and understanding. When we read a moving novel, we connect with the author's personal journey, their struggles, their joys and their unique view of the world. AI cannot draw from real-life experiences because it has none. It can only work with patterns it finds in existing text.
Consider a column about losing a loved one. A human writer who has gone through this experience can share their raw emotions, their specific memories and the small, meaningful moments that made their relationship special. They can describe the weight of grief in ways that resonate with readers who have felt the same pain. AI, on the other hand, can only create general descriptions based on what others have written. It cannot truly understand or convey the depth of such human experiences.
The same goes for intellectual discourse. While AI can summarize existing arguments and combine different viewpoints, it cannot create truly original thoughts or challenge established ideas in meaningful ways. Human intellectuals bring their unique perspectives, shaped by years of study, personal experiences and deep reflection. They can see connections that others miss and propose new ways of thinking that come from their genuine engagement with ideas.
Take a philosopher writing about happiness. Their thoughts might be influenced by their own life journey, conversations with others and years of observing human behavior. They might challenge common beliefs based on their personal insights and real-world observations. AI can process existing philosophy texts, but it cannot contribute new wisdom born from lived experience.
Writers also know their audiences in ways that AI cannot. They understand the subtle cultural references that will resonate with their readers, the local contexts that matter and the emotional undertones that make writing powerful. A local columnist writing about their community brings years of personal connections and understanding that AI simply cannot match.
Moreover, human writers can adapt and respond to changing situations with genuine empathy and understanding. During times of crisis or celebration, they can capture the mood of their community because they are part of it. They feel what their readers feel and can express those emotions authentically. AI might be able to identify patterns in how people write about such events, but it cannot truly share in these collective human experiences.
The creative process itself is deeply personal and often messy in ways that AI cannot replicate. Writers often discover what they really want to say as they write, changing direction as new thoughts emerge. Their best ideas might come from random connections, dreams or conversations with friends. This organic, unpredictable creative process leads to unique and powerful writing that touches readers in unexpected ways.
Looking ahead, we should see AI as a helpful tool that can make writing tasks easier and more efficient. It can handle routine writing tasks, help with research, and suggest improvements to our work. This support allows human writers to focus more on the aspects of writing that truly require human touch, sharing genuine emotions, offering unique insights and connecting with readers on a personal level.
For new writers and professionals, AI can be particularly helpful as a learning tool. It can show them different ways to structure their writing, suggest improvements and help them develop their skills. However they should remember that their own voices, experiences and emotions are what will make their writing truly valuable and unique.
The rise of AI in writing should not worry good writers and thinkers. Instead of worrying it should remind us of what makes human writing special, our ability to share real emotions, create genuine connections and offer truly original thoughts. While AI can help with the mechanics of writing, the heart and soul of meaningful writing will always come from human experiences and understanding.
While AI is becoming a useful tool in writing, it cannot replace the emotional depth, personal experience and original thinking that human writers bring to their work. The future of writing will likely involve collaboration between humans and AI, where each contributes what they do best. AI can handle the routine aspects of writing, leaving humans free to focus on what they do uniquely well, creating content that truly touches hearts and minds through genuine emotion and lived experience.

The Urgent Need for a Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital in Jammu & Kashmir @ The Daily Global Kashmir

The Urgent Need for a Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital in Jammu & Kashmir
In Jammu & Kashmir a healthcare crisis silently unfolds. Cancer patients from across the Union Territory face an arduous journey not just in their battle against the disease, but in physically accessing quality cancer care. The establishment of a Tata Memorial Cancer (TMC) Hospital in either Srinagar or Jammu has emerged as a critical necessity, one that could transform the healthcare landscape of the entire region.
The healthcare infrastructure in Jammu & Kashmir has seen significant improvements in recent years, particularly with the implementation of various government initiatives. The establishment of AIIMS facilities has undoubtedly enhanced the region's medical capabilities. However when it comes to specialised cancer care, the gap remains substantial and concerning.
Currently, cancer patients from J&K must undertake exhausting journeys to major cities like Mumbai, Chandigarh or any other Centre in country to access comprehensive cancer treatment. This geographical displacement creates multiple challenges:
The cost of cancer treatment is already substantial for most families. When combined with travel expenses, accommodation costs and the need for accompanying family members to relocate temporarily, the financial burden becomes overwhelming. Many families are forced to sell assets or incur heavy debts to fund their treatment journey.
Long distance travel is particularly challenging for cancer patients whose immunity is often compromised due to the disease and treatment. The physical strain of traveling hundreds or kilometers, sometimes in difficult weather conditions adds to their suffering. The emotional impact of being away from home and community support systems during such a critical time cannot be understated.
The logistical challenges of accessing distant healthcare facilities often result in delayed diagnosis and treatment initiation. Some patients may even postpone follow-up visits due to the travel burden, potentially compromising their treatment outcomes.
The Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) has established itself as a beacon of hope in cancer care across India. Its unique attributes make it an ideal institution to address J&K's cancer care needs:
TMC is renowned for its comprehensive cancer care approach, combining cutting-edge technology with experienced medical professionals. The institution's research capabilities and evidence based treatment protocols have set national standards in oncology care.
TMC's model of providing high quality cancer care at subsidised rates has proven particularly beneficial for economically disadvantaged patients. This aspect is crucial for J&K, where many families struggle with treatment costs.
A TMC facility would not just serve patients but also help build local capacity by training healthcare professionals from the region. This would create a sustainable ecosystem of cancer care expertise within J&K.
The establishment of a TMC facility in either Srinagar or Jammu would revolutionize cancer care accessibility for the entire region.
Proximity to specialised cancer care facilities often leads to better screening programs and earlier detection. This is crucial as early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes in most cancers.
Regular follow-up is essential in cancer treatment. A local facility would ensure better compliance with follow-up protocols and monitoring of treatment responses.
Patients could maintain their support systems while undergoing treatment, a factor that significantly impacts recovery and quality of life during treatment.
The current administration has shown commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure in J&K. The establishment of AIIMS and other medical facilities demonstrates this dedication. However, the specific need for specialised cancer care requires focused attention.
While AIIMS facilities have reduced the healthcare access burden for many conditions, cancer care requires specialised infrastructure, expertise and technology that only dedicated cancer centers like TMC can provide effectively.
Cancer incidence rates in J&K, like in other parts of India, are showing an upward trend. A proactive approach to establishing comprehensive cancer care infrastructure would help address this growing public health challenge.
Through extensive research and interactions with cancer patients and their families from J&K, several compelling narratives emerge, Patient Experiences
Families speak of selling property, leaving jobs and disrupting children's education to facilitate cancer treatment in distant cities. These stories pushed me to raise the issue and highlight the urgent need for local specialised cancer care facilities.
Local medical professionals acknowledge the limitations in providing comprehensive cancer care with existing infrastructure and emphasize the need for a specialised center.
The establishment of a TMC facility in J&K requires coordinated efforts from multiple stakeholders.
Elected Government in J&K Ut and Lieutenant Governor's office with the support of the Central Government need to prioritise this healthcare imperative. The required land allocation, regulatory approvals and funding mechanisms need to be expedited.
Infrastructure Planning
Careful consideration must be given to the location choice between Srinagar and Jammu, ensuring maximum accessibility for the entire region. Transportation links, supporting infrastructure, and accommodation facilities need to be planned comprehensively.
Local medical communities, civil society organizations, and patient groups should be involved in the planning process to ensure the facility meets regional needs effectively.
The establishment of a Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital in Jammu & Kashmir is not just a healthcare necessity but a humanitarian imperative. The current situation, where cancer patients must undertake arduous journeys for treatment, adds unnecessary suffering to an already challenging battle against the disease.
The success of AIIMS facilities in the region has demonstrated the positive impact of investing in quality healthcare infrastructure. A TMC facility would take this progress further, specifically addressing the critical need for specialised cancer care.
The time has come for decisive action from both the UT administration and the Central Government. The hopes of countless families affected by cancer hang in the balance. Every day of delay means more patients facing the challenging choice between their health and their resources.
As voices from across J&K unite in this appeal, the establishment of a TMC facility stands as a testament to the government's commitment to healthcare equity and accessibility. The realization of this project would not just save lives but also restore dignity to the cancer care journey for countless patients and their families in the region.

RAMADAN - TEACHES PEACE
Ramadan, A comprehensive program of spiritual and social transformation.
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is far more than a period of fasting. It is a profound spiritual journey that embodies the core Islamic principles of peace, compassion, self-discipline and universal brotherhood. This sacred month offers a transformative experience that teaches Muslims and the world at large profound lessons about harmony, empathy and mutual understanding.
At its core, Ramadan is a time of spiritual renewal and introspection. From dawn to sunset, Muslims abstain from eating, drinking and other physical needs, not as a form of punishment, but as a method of purifying the soul and developing empathy for those less fortunate. This practice goes beyond physical restraint and enters the realm of spiritual and moral discipline.
The Quran, describes Ramadan as a month of guidance. In Surah Al-Baqarah (2:185), it states, The month of Ramadan [is that] in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. This verse emphasises that Ramadan is not just about abstinence, but about receiving divine guidance and understanding.
One of the most significant teachings of Ramadan is the development of self-control. By restraining basic physical desires, individuals learn to control their impulses, anger and negative emotions. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasised that fasting is not merely about abstaining from eating and drinking, but also about controlling one's speech and actions.
In a famous hadith, the Prophet (PBUH) said, Whoever does not give up forged speech and evil actions, Allah is not in need of his leaving his food and drink. This profound statement underscores that true fasting is about inner transformation and developing a peaceful disposition.
Ramadan uniquely cultivates empathy by allowing individuals to experience hunger and thirst, thereby understanding the challenges faced by those who are less privileged. This experience naturally promotes compassion and motivates acts of charity and kindness.
The concept of (Zakat) (mandatory charitable giving) and (Sadaqah) (voluntary charity) becomes particularly prominent during Ramadan. Muslims are encouraged to support the poor, feed the hungry and help those in need. This practice is not limited to the Muslim community but extends to all humanity, reflecting the universal nature of compassion.
Islamic history provides numerous examples of how Ramadan has been a time of peace and reconciliation. One notable instance is the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, signed during the time of Prophet Muhammad(PBUH) Despite facing significant challenges, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) chose diplomatic negotiations over conflict, demonstrating that peace can be achieved through dialogue and mutual respect.
During this treaty, the Prophet (PBUH) showed remarkable restraint and wisdom. When confronted with potential conflict, he opted for a peaceful resolution that prioritised long-term harmony over short-term victories. This approach embodies the true spirit of Ramadan, seeking peaceful solutions and maintaining dignity.
Ramadan teaches respect for diversity and promotes interfaith understanding. The Quran explicitly recognises the validity of other monotheistic faiths and encourages peaceful coexistence. Verse 2:62 states, Indeed, those who believe and those who are Jews and Christians and Sabeans, those who believe in Allah and the Last Day and do righteousness, will have their reward with their Lord, and no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve.
This verse clearly demonstrates that the Islamic perspective is inclusive, promoting the idea that righteousness and faith transcend religious boundaries. During Ramadan, Muslims are encouraged to extend kindness not just to fellow Muslims, but to all humanity, regardless of their faith, background or social status.
The practical manifestations of peace during Ramadan are numerous. Community iftars (meals to break the fast) often include people from different backgrounds, social classes and religions. These communal meals become platforms for dialogue, understanding and breaking down social barriers.
Many Muslim communities organize interfaith events during Ramadan, inviting people from different religious backgrounds to share meals and discussions. These initiatives help combat misconceptions, reduce tensions and build bridges of understanding.
The spiritual discipline cultivated during Ramadan has broader implications for global peace. When individuals learn to control their impulses, show empathy and priorities collective well-being, they contribute to a more harmonious society.
The month teaches patience, tolerance, and the ability to see beyond immediate personal needs. By focusing on spiritual growth and community welfare, individuals develop a more holistic worldview that naturally promotes peaceful coexistence.
Interestingly, modern research has highlighted the physiological benefits of the Ramadan practice. Studies have shown that controlled fasting can improve mental clarity, emotional regulation, and overall well-being. These benefits align perfectly with the spiritual goals of developing inner peace and self-control.
Neurological research suggests that practices involving self-discipline and mindfulness, similar to those during Ramadan, can enhance brain plasticity, emotional intelligence and stress management capabilities.
While Ramadan offers immense potential for personal and collective transformation, it is not without challenges. In a world often divided by conflicts, religious misunderstandings and cultural differences, practicing the true essence of Ramadan requires conscious effort and commitment.
Muslims are called upon to rise above cultural and political divisions, focusing instead on the universal values of compassion, empathy and mutual respect. This requires continuous education, open dialogue and a willingness to challenge existing narratives of conflict.
Ramadan is more than a religious observance, it is a comprehensive program of spiritual and social transformation. Its teachings of peace are not confined to a single month or a specific community but offer a universal blueprint for human harmony.
By promoting self-discipline, compassion, empathy and respect, Ramadan provides a powerful model for addressing global challenges. It reminds us that true peace begins within individuals and gradually expands to families, communities and ultimately, the entire world.
As the world continues to grapple with divisions and conflicts, the principles of Ramadan offer a timeless and powerful approach to building understanding, promoting tolerance and creating lasting peace.

PANDIT JI DEEN DAYAL UPADHYAYA
Pandit ji Deendayal Upadhyaya and youth power, An Analysis.
Pandit Ji Deendayal Upadhyaya stands as a remarkable figure whose ideas continue to live in the minds of the young indians even today.
Born and raised in a small village of Nagla Chandrabhan in Mathura district on 25th September 1916, Pandit ji's journey from a humble beginning of becoming one of India's most influential thinkers is an example of dedication and intellectual rigor.
Deen Dayal's early life was marked by hardship and loss. Orphaned at a young age, he was raised by his maternal uncle. Despite these challenges, he exhibited exceptional academic brilliance, consistently ranking at the top of his classes. This period of his life shaped his understanding of struggle and resilience, qualities he would later emphasise in his teachings to young Indians.
His academic excellence earned him a scholarship to high school and later to college, where he studied English literature. However, what truly made him Pandit ji was his voracious reading habit and his ability to connect ancient Indian wisdom with contemporary challenges. This synthesis would later become the foundation of his philosophical contributions.
Perhaps Pandit ji's most significant contribution to Indian political thought was his philosophy of Integral Humanism. He was associated with Bharatiya Jana Sangh from 1953 to 1968 and played a unique role as a tall leader all along the way, The comprehensive worldview, particularly relevant to today's youth, presents a unique blend of traditional Indian values and modern developmental needs. Unlike Western political philosophies that often emphasise materialism or pure spiritualism, Integral Humanism seeks a balanced approach to human development.
For today's youth, Upadhyaya's philosophy offers several crucial insights. First, it emphasises the importance of maintaining one's cultural roots intact. This becomes particularly relevant in an age where young Indians are grappling with questions of identity in a globalised world. Second, it stresses the need for holistic development, not just economic growth, but spiritual and social progress as well.
Pandit Ji's ideas about youth empowerment were far ahead of their time. He believed that young people were not just the future of the nation but its present strength. His approach to youth development focused on three key aspects: character building, skill development and national consciousness, Which is a proven perfect vision so far.
In terms of character building, Pandit ji emphasised the importance of self-discipline and moral values. He believed that without strong character, technical skills and knowledge would be insufficient for true national development. This message resonates strongly today when young people face numerous distractions and challenges to maintaining focus and discipline.
Regarding skill development, he advocated for an education system that would blend practical skills with theoretical knowledge. His vision of education went beyond mere academic achievement to include vocational training and entrepreneurship development. This perspective is particularly relevant today as India grapples with questions of employability and skill development among its youth.
*The concept of national consciousness in Pandit ji's thought was not about blind nationalism but about understanding one's responsibility towards society. He encouraged young people to think beyond individual success and consider their role in national development. This approach offers valuable guidance for today's youth who are often caught between personal ambitions and social responsibilities.*
Pandit ji Deendayal Upadhyaya's life was tragically cut short on 11th of February 1968, when he was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Mughalsarai railway station (now renamed after him as Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction). His death was not just the loss of a political leader but of a visionary who had much more to contribute to nation-building.
The circumstances of his death, while tragic, added another dimension to his legacy. It demonstrated the risks and sacrifices involved in public service, a lesson that remains relevant for young people considering careers in public life. His martyrdom serves as a reminder that the path of national service often demands supreme sacrifices.
His concept of SWADESHI or economic self-reliance aligns well with current initiatives like MAKE IN INDIA and START-UP INDIA His emphasis on indigenous economic models speaks to young entrepreneurs looking to create uniquely Indian solutions to economic challenges.
In an age of increasing social divisions, his philosophy of integral humanism offers a framework for social harmony that goes beyond mere tolerance to active cooperation and understanding. This is particularly relevant for young people working in diverse, multicultural environments.
Long before environmental protection became a global movement, Upadhyaya spoke about the need for sustainable development and harmony with nature. His ideas resonate with environmentally conscious youth today.
His life offers valuable lessons in leadership, particularly he emphasis on living simply, thinking deeply, and working tirelessly for social good. These principles continue to inspire young leaders across various fields even today.
Pandit ji's ideas have influenced numerous youth movements and organisations in India. His emphasis on cultural nationalism combined with progressive social and economic thinking has provided a framework for youth engagement in national development. Many youth organisations today draw inspiration from his approach to social service and NATION-BUILDING.
For contemporary youth, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya's life and ideas offer several important lessons, The importance of maintaining one's cultural identity while embracing modern progress remains a crucial challenge. His integrated approach to development, combining material progress with spiritual and cultural growth, offers a balanced pathway for young people.
His emphasis on character building alongside skill development provides a template for holistic personal development. This becomes particularly relevant in an age where success is often measured solely in material terms.
The concept of serving society while pursuing personal goals offers a meaningful framework for young people looking to make a difference in the world.
Pandit Ji Deen Dayal Upadhyaya's life, work and martyrdom continue to inspire and guide Indian youth. His philosophy of Integral Humanism offers a unique perspective on development that remains relevant in today's complex world. For young Indians grappling with questions of identity, purpose and direction, his ideas provide valuable insights and practical guidance.
His tragic death, while cutting short a promising life, transformed him into a symbol of sacrifice for national causes. This aspect of his legacy serves as a powerful reminder of the costs sometimes associated with public service and national development.
As India moves forward in the 21st century, Upadhyaya's vision of a strong, self-reliant NATION built on the foundation of cultural values while embracing modern progress continues to resonate with young Indians. His ideas about youth power and national development offer a roadmap for young people looking to contribute to India's growth story while maintaining their cultural roots.
The true tribute to Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya would be for today's youth to embrace his ideals of integral development, social service and national consciousness while adapting them to contemporary challenges. His life and legacy stand as a beacon, guiding young Indians toward meaningful contribution to national development while maintaining their cultural identity.

Cyber Police Kashmir, Guardians Against Cyber Threats
In a series of remarkable demonstrations of efficiency and dedication, Cyber Police Kashmir has achieved another significant milestone in the fight against digital /cyber crime. After solving the U.P Case recently, CPK successfully recovered ₹45 lakh that had been lost to online fraud and returned the money to the victims. This achievement stands as a true commitment of honesty and dedication, the growing capabilities of our law enforcement agencies in combating the increasingly sophisticated world of cyber crimes, digital threats or online frauds.
The recent recovery of ₹45 lakhs marks one of the successful interventions by the Cyber Police Kashmir. For the victims who had lost their hard-earned money, this recovery means more than just financial reclamation, With honour it represents honesty and loyalty of the officers behind badges in our Police department. The amount, which could have disappeared forever into the complex web of digital transactions, has been traced and returned to its rightful owners.
Superintendent Of Police at Cyber Crime Kashmir, Iftkhar Talib Sir, shared with a news agency that this achievement was the result of quick action and well-coordinated efforts among various team members. "Our team worked diligently to trace and reverse the defrauded amount," he explained, highlighting the dedication of the officers involved in this operation.
The successful recovery didn't happen by chance. It involved a series of carefully planned and executed steps by a team of cyber experts worked round the clock. While the specific technical details remain confidential to protect operational methods, the process typically involves rapid response protocols that have been developed through years of experience dealing with similar cases.
When a victim reports an online fraud case, time becomes the most critical factor. The cyber team immediately begins tracking the money trail, coordinating with banks and payment gateways and using specialised software to identify and freeze suspicious transactions before they can be further transferred or withdrawn.
The dedicated team at Cyber Police Kashmir has developed expertise in understanding the typical patterns and methods used by fraudsters. This knowledge, combined with state-of-the-art technology and dedicated personnel, creates a formidable force against cybercriminals.
The success story comes at a time when cybercrime is evolving at an alarming rate across India and the world. Criminals are constantly developing new techniques to trick unsuspecting citizens into parting with their money or sensitive information. From fake investment schemes promising unrealistic returns to sophisticated phishing attempts that mimic legitimate organisations, the tactics used by these criminals continue to grow in complexity.
"Cybercriminals employ sophisticated tactics to deceive people," SP Talib noted, explaining why even educated and careful citiszens sometimes fall victim to these schemes. The perpetrators often exploit human psychology, creating scenarios that trigger emotional responses rather than logical thinking. Fear, greed, urgency or trust are commonly manipulated to bypass people's natural caution.
What makes cybercrime particularly challenging is its borderless nature. Unlike traditional crimes that are constrained by physical limitations, digital criminals can operate from anywhere in the world, making investigation and prosecution significantly more complex.
One of the most important takeaways from this success story is the critical importance of immediate reporting. As SP Talib emphasised, "prompt reporting enhances the chances of recovery." This is because digital transactions, while fast, often leave a trail that can be followed, but only if authorities are alerted / informed quickly enough.
When victims delay reporting out of embarrassment, uncertainty or the hope that they might resolve the situation themselves, they inadvertently give criminals more time to cover their tracks. Every individual should understand that with each passing hour, the chances of recovering lost funds diminish significantly.
The Cyber Police Kashmir has established multiple channels for reporting cybercrime to ensure that victims can reach out without delay. Whether through the physical Cyber Police Station Kashmir, the national cyber helpline 1930, or through their active social media handles, they have made accessibility a priority.
While the recovery of ₹45 lakh demonstrates the capabilities of our dedicated Cyber Police, prevention remains the best protection against fraud. SP Talib offered several practical pieces of advice for citizens to safeguard themselves against potential scams.
Firstly, he warned against getting involved in dubious investment schemes. If an investment opportunity promises returns that seem too good to be true, they most likely are. Legitimate investments come with reasonable expectations and transparent terms.
Secondly, he emphasised the importance of protecting sensitive banking information. This includes not just obvious details like passwords and PINs, but also seemingly innocuous information like OTPs (One-Time Passwords), account numbers or even personal details that could be used to answer security questions.
Besides that Clicking on unknown links / replica or duplicate websites can lead to a digital fraud very easily.
Most importantly, he stressed the need for immediate reporting in case of any suspicious activity or confirmed fraud. "Early intervention increases the likelihood of recovering lost money," SP Talib explained, reiterating that time is of the essence in such cases.
The recovery operation showcases not just technological capabilities but also the human element that drives the Cyber Police Kashmir. Behind every successful case is a team of dedicated officers who bring together various specialisations from technical expertise in digital forensics to traditional investigative skills.
These officers often work long hours, navigating the complex intersection of technology, finance and criminal psychology to track down perpetrators and recover stolen funds. Their work requires constant learning and adaptation as the methods used by criminals evolve rapidly.
The leadership provided by officers in Jammu Kashmir Police Department creates an environment where expertise can flourish. By establishing clear protocols, ensuring necessary resources and maintaining high morale, the leadership enables the team to respond effectively to the challenges posed by criminals.
The success achieved by the Cyber Police Kashmir serves as a potential model for other regions facing similar challenges. Their combination of technological resources, trained personnel, efficient processes and public outreach creates a comprehensive approach to tackling cybercrime.
Particularly noteworthy is their emphasis on public education. By regularly sharing information about common scams, warning signs and protective measures, they help citizens become more aware and less vulnerable to fraud attempts.
Their multi-channel approach to reporting also ensures that victims can reach out through whichever means is most accessible to them, whether through phone calls, personal visits, or digital platforms. This accessibility is important in ensuring that cases are reported promptly.
As digital transactions become increasingly integral to daily life, the role of specialised units like the Cyber Police Kashmir is the only hope, the series of succesful recoveries continuously demonstrates the dedication, capabilities and best sufficient equipments in department.
To stay ahead of criminals, continuous investment in technology, training and awareness is essential. The Cyber Police must continue to adapt their methods, upgrade their tools and expand their knowledge to address emerging threats effectively.
Public cooperation also remains crucial. Citizens must take responsibility for their digital security by staying informed, following recommended practices, and reporting incidents promptly when they occur. The partnership between law enforcement and the general public creates a strong defense against crime and criminals.
Beyond the practical aspects of this achievement, the recovery of ₹45 lakh sends a powerful message to both potential victims and criminals. To the public, it demonstrates that they are not alone in facing the threats of the digital world, there are dedicated professionals working 24x7 to protect them and to help them recover if they do fall victim.
To criminals, it serves as a warning that their actions have consequences. Despite the seemingly anonymous nature of digital crimes, law enforcement agencies are developing the capabilities to track, identify/and hold perpetrators accountable.
As we continue to embrace digital technologies in our daily lives, the role of specialized units like the Cyber Police Kashmir becomes increasingly vital. Their success reminds us that even as criminal methods evolve, so too does our ability to combat them effectively. With vigilant citizens, dedicated law enforcement agencies and appropriate technological resources, we can build a safer digital environment for everyone.
Note:
If you or someone you know has been a victim of cyber fraud, don't hesitate, report it immediately.
Remember, when it comes to recovery, every minute counts.

BACK TO HOME
Ministry of External Affairs GOI successfully brought 13 Kashmiri young men back from Myanmar.
SSP Tahir Ashraf of Counter Intelligence Kashmir with his team handed over them to their families on 13th of March this year.
In the early hours of a cold winter morning, thirteen families across Jammu and Kashmir received the phone calls they had been desperately waiting for. Their children, young men who had been trapped in Myanmar under perilous circumstances, were coming home. This wasn't just good news, it was a proud moment for all of us, return of thirteen young individuals to their families was just a meticulous job by Senior Superintendent of Police Tahir Ashraf and his dedicated team at Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK)."
The operation, which unfolded over several weeks, exemplifies the quiet heroism and unwavering commitment of MOEA, GOI and Indian Embassy in Myanmar, who work tirelessly behind the scenes, often without public recognition. This is the story of how determination, strategic planning and human compassion came together to bring thirteen young people safely back to their families.
The situation first came to light when frantic parents began approaching local police stations with similar stories. Their children, mostly young men in their early twenties, had left home after being promised lucrative IT jobs in Thailand. They had paid substantial sums between ₹4-6 lakhs each to recruitment agents who had assured them of high-paying positions in Bangkok's booming tech industry.
However, after reaching Thailand, these young men were transported across the border into Myanmar. There, they discovered the horrifying truth, they had been trafficked to work in cyber scam operations run by criminal syndicates in Myanmar's notorious Special Economic Zones, particularly in areas like Myawaddy near the Thai border.
The first call received from a father in Srinagar, He was in tears, saying his son had called him secretly, asking for help. The boy said he was being held against his will and forced to work more than 16 hours a day running online scams.
Within days, similar reports began flooding in from different districts of Jammu and Kashmir. The pattern was unmistakable, young educated individuals from middle-class families had been systematically targeted by trafficking networks operating across international borders.
Myanmar's border regions, particularly those controlled by armed groups rather than the central government, have become infamous for large-scale cyber scam operations. These criminal enterprises lure educated young people from across Asia with promises of legitimate employment, only to confiscate their passports upon arrival and force them to work in what amount to digital sweatshops.
The victims are typically held in heavily guarded compounds where they are forced to perpetrate various forms of online frauds, from romance scams to fake investment schemes, targeting victims primarily in Western countries. Those who resist or fail to meet quotas face physical abuse, starvation or worse.
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) estimates that thousands of people across Southeast Asia have been trafficked into these cyber scam operations, with the number growing each year. The profits are enormous, a single compound can generate millions of dollars monthly through these criminal activities.
For the thirteen young men from Jammu and Kashmir, this nightmare had become their reality. They were confined to a compound in Myanmar's Myawaddy area, forced to work round the clock, with limited food and under constant threat to life.
For officials looking after the case in MOEA - GOI getting in touch with victims was very difficult as the traffickers strictly controlled all communication devices. However, through family members, the team managed to establish sporadic contact with some of the trapped individuals, who provided crucial information about their location and circumstances.
"What makes these operations so difficult to combat is their international nature," explains a senior officer. "The moment victims cross international borders, the complexity increases exponentially."
Rescuing citizens from a foreign country, especially from an area not fully controlled by that country's government requires delicate diplomatic engagement. India's Ministry of External Affairs to initiate formal diplomatic requests for assistance.
The Indian Embassy in Myanmar was brought into the loop and diplomatic channels were activated to seek cooperation from Thai authorities as well, since any rescue operation would likely require transit through Thailand.
International cooperation is essential in such cases, foreign ministry officials involved in the process navigated complex diplomatic relationships while maintaining the urgency the situation demanded.
"The priority was always the safety of the victims," emphasises a CIK officer involved in handing over the victims to their families. "Every decision was made with that as the primary consideration."
Simultaneously, diplomatic pressure reached a critical point, with formal requests for assistance from the Indian government receiving positive responses from authorities in both Thailand and Myanmar.
It was like watching pieces of a complex puzzle finally coming together, Suddenly, there was movement where before there had been only obstacles.
Once in Thailand, representatives from the Indian Embassy met the group and provided emergency travel documents. Within hours, all thirteen were on flights back to India.
"When we received confirmation that they had boarded their flights home, there was a moment of collective relief in the operation room," says an officer. "But we knew our job was not done until they were safely handed over to their families."
The return of the thirteen young men to Jammu and Kashmir was deliberately kept low-key to protect their privacy and dignity. SSP Tahir Ashraf personally supervised their arrival and took them to their families.
For the families, the moment was overwhelming. Parents who had spent months in agony, not knowing if they would ever see their children again, were finally able to embrace them.
"I will never forget the look on the parents' faces," shares a police officer of CIK who witnessed the reunions. "There are some moments in this job that remind you why you do it and that was definitely one of them."
Beyond the operational success, the human impact of this rescue cannot be overstated. Thirteen young lives were saved from exploitation and potential long-term trauma. Families were spared the continuing anguish of having loved ones in danger thousands of miles away.
Many of the rescued individuals have chosen to remain anonymous, preferring to rebuild their lives quietly. However, some have shared their experiences to help warn others about the dangers of such job offers.
"They promised me ₹1.5 lakh per month for simple computer work," recounts one of the rescued men, requesting anonymity. "By the time I realised it was a trap, my passport was gone, and I was told I had to work to repay my 'debt' for transportation and accommodation."
Another describes the conditions in the compound: "We worked in shifts round the clock in a large room with hundreds of computers. Anyone who didn't meet their quota was beaten. We slept on the floor and were given only one meal a day sometimes."
The psychological impact on the victims has been significant. Many continue to receive counseling to help them process their experiences and reintegrate into society.
The successful rescue operation highlighted several important lessons about combating human trafficking in the digital age,
1. The growing nexus between cybercrime and human trafficking and exploitation of the cyber platforms especially social media requires specialised law enforcement approaches.
2. International cooperation is essential for addressing transnational trafficking networks.
3. Proactive intelligence gathering and patient strategy development are crucial for successful rescues.
4. Support systems for victims must extend beyond the physical rescue to include psychological and social rehabilitation.
Despite this success, the challenge remains enormous. The criminal networks behind these operations are well-funded, adaptable and operate across multiple jurisdictions. For every compound that is exposed, others emerge in different locations.
This rescue was significant, but it's just one small victory in a much larger battle.
"What distinguished SSP Tahir Ashraf's approach was his ability to remain calm under immense pressure," observes a colleague. "He never lost sight of the human element, that there were thirteen families counting on us to bring their children home."
In the aftermath of the rescue, authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have intensified efforts to prevent similar cases. These include:
1. Awareness campaigns about fraudulent job offers floating on different Internet platforms especially social media, particularly those promising high salaries abroad with minimal qualifications
2. Establishment of verification mechanisms for international job recruiters.
3. Coordination with emigration authorities to identify potential trafficking victims before they leave the country.
4. Creation of a specialized cyber patrol unit to monitor and flag suspicious job advertisements and their place/country of origin.
Schools and colleges across the region now include awareness sessions about trafficking risks and one should verify keenly about the international job offers before accepting them.
SSP CIK stressed that “We need to broad-base our awareness campaigns, especially at school and college levels. It is essential to sensitise the youth, especially those who are educated and looking for jobs, about such traps. Desperation of unemployed youth looking for jobs online, can make them potential target of such scammers. Parents are also advised to be watchful about the activities of their children looking for online jobs”, he added.
The case of these thirteen young men is not isolated. According to the United Nations, human trafficking for forced criminality, including cyber scams, one of the fastest-growing forms of human trafficking globally and a new form of bonded labour in modern times.
The International Labour Organisation estimates that over 50 million people worldwide are in situations of modern slavery, with forced labor accounting for a significant portion of this number.
In South and Southeast Asia particularly, the problem has reached crisis proportions. Countries like Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar and Cambodia have become hotspots for cyber scam operations using trafficked labor.
"What we are seeing is an evolution of exploitation," explains a human rights expert. "Criminal organisations have recognised that educated young people with digital skills can be exploited for significant profit in these scam operations."
The rescue of thirteen young men from Myanmar represents more than just a successful operation, it embodies the highest ideals of public service and duty of Jammu and Kashmir Police in general and CI-Kashmir in particular.
For thirteen families in Jammu and Kashmir, this quiet heroism transformed their lives, turning despair into hope and bringing their children safely home. Behind the headlines and statistics about human trafficking are real human stories, both of those who suffer and those who work tirelessly to help them.
In the words of one grateful parent: "They didn't just rescue my son; they rescued our entire family from a nightmare we thought would never end. How do you thank someone for that?"
Perhaps the answer lies in recognition, not just of this specific operation, but of the daily dedication of officers like SSP Tahir Ashraf and his team at Counter Intelligence Kashmir, who embody the true meaning of public service through their true commitment to those they protect.
In the quiet heroism of everyday duty, they accomplish what matters most at CIK.
